Multiscale pollen-based reconstructions of anthropogenic land-cover change in Karula Upland, south Estonia
Sea level changes and Neolithic hunter-fisher-gatherers in the centre of Tallinn, southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, Baltic Sea
Relative sea level (RSL) changes and the palaeogeography of a Neolithic hunter-fisher-gatherer settlement site on the former shore of the Gulf of Finland in the city centre of Tallinn were reconstructed by implementing GIS in landscape modelling based on archaeological, sedimentary and shore displacement data. AMS radiocarbon dating of mammal bones from the cultural layer suggests the existence of the hunter-fisher-gatherer settlement around 5.1–…
Holocene vegetation and land-use dynamics of south-eastern Estonia
Is there a relationship between crop farming and the Alnus decline in the eastern Baltic region
New evidence of possible crop introduction to north-eastern Europe during the Stone Age
Holocene forest dynamics and human impact in southeastern Estonia
Vegetation development and introduction of agriculture to Saaremaa Island, Estonia
Three pollen profiles from Saaremaa Island (West Estonian Archipelago) record vegetation history from the early Holocene up to the present, and land-use history since the late Mesolithic. A new numerical zonation approach for distinguishing between human and climatic impacts in the pollen record in boreal forest is suggested. Zonation and correlation of the studied profiles suggests four pollen-assemblage zones, regarded as regionally significant…
Biostratigraphy and 14 C dating of a lake sediment sequence on the north-west Estonian carbonaceous plateau, interpreted in terms of human impact in the surroundings
Holocene vegetation and land-use history in the environs of Lake Kahala, northern Estonia
Present‐day and mid‐Holocene biomes reconstructed from pollen and plant macrofossil data from the former Soviet Union and Mongolia
Fossil pollen data supplemented by tree macrofossil records were used to reconstruct the vegetation of the Former Soviet Union and Mongolia at 6000 years. Pollen spectra were assigned to biomes using the plant‐functional‐type method developed by Prentice et al . (1996). Surface pollen data and a modern vegetation map provided a test of the method. This is the first time such a broad‐scale vegetation reconstruction for the greater part of northern…
