  • Seventeenth-century uplift in eastern Hokkaido, Japan

    Open Access•Brian F Atwater, Ryuta Furukawa et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2004•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

Shores of eastern Hokkaido rose by perhaps I m a few centuries ago. The uplifted area extended at least 50km along the southern Kuril Trench. It included the estuaries Akkeshi-ko and Hichirippu, on the Pacific coast, and Furen-ko and Onneto, which open to the Okhotsk Sea. At each estuary, intertidal and subtidal flats rose with respect to tide level; wetland plants colonized the emerging land; and peaty wetland deposits thereby covered mud and sa…

  • Holocene sea-level rise and coral reef growth on a tectonically rising coast, Huon Peninsula, Papua New Guinea

    Open Access•Yôko Ôta, John Chappell•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•1999

  • Seismic or hydrodynamic control of rapid late-Holocene sea-level rises in southern coastal Oregon, USA

    Open Access•Alan R Nelson, Yôko Ôta et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1998•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 1

Intertidal stratigraphy has been instrumental in demonstrating the hazard posed by great earthquakes at the Cascadia subduction zone, but inferring an earthquake history from interbedded sequences of peat and mud is complicated by many factors that influence sedimentation and relative sea-level change on both tectonic and nontectonic coasts. Rapid-to-sudden rises in relative sea level marked by sharp contacts between intertidal peat and overlying…

  • Holocene Coral Reef Terraces and Coseismic Uplift of Huon Peninsula, Papua New Guinea

Open Access•Yôko Ôta, John Chappell et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1993

As many as six levels of emerged Holocene coral terraces occur along 40 km of coastline on the Huon Peninsula, Papua New Guinea, recording uplift history since culmination of the postglacial transgression. The Holocene reef crest, ca. 6000 yr B.P., is tilted down to the northwest, parallel to the coast and concordant with the deformation of the last interglacial coral reef terrace, and descends from 23 to 12 m in the study area. The pattern and r…

  • Holocene coastal evolution under the influence of episodic tectonic uplift

    Open Access•Kelvin R Berryman, Yôko Ôta et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•1992

  • Contrasting styles and rates of tectonic uplift of coral reef terraces in the Ryukyu and Daito Islands, southwestern Japan

    Open Access•Yôko Ôta, Akio Omura•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•1992

  • Coseismic Uplift of Holocene Marine Terraces in the Pakarae River Area, Eastern North Island, New Zealand

    Open Access•Yôko Ôta, Alan G Hull et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1991

Holocene marine terraces along 15 km of the northeastern coast of North Island record episodic tectonic uplift. A maximum of seven terraces are arranged in staircase fashion and lie about 20 km above the subduction interface between the Pacific and Australian plates. The highest (T1) corresponds with the maximum of the Holocene marine transgression about 6700 14 C yr B.P. Younger terraces are marine abrasion platforms overlain by thin beach depos…
