  • Bluff Field (9CH160) ceramics and radiocarbon dating and their implications for chronology building on Ossabaw Island and the Georgia coast

    Brett Parbus, V D Thompson et al.•ARTICLE•Southeastern Archaeology•2023•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 3

We present the results of the 2022 excavations at the Bluff Field site (9CH160), wherein we consider the juxtaposition of Bayesian radiocarbon modeling against the current ceramic chronologies derived for the Georgia coast. New evidence from AMS radiocarbon dating and statistical modeling pushes both the timing and span of Wilmington series ceramics beyond the ranges afforded by current models. Short-lived carbonized hickory nuts from within exca…

  • Climate change, resilience, and the Native American Fisher-hunter-gatherers of the late Holocene on the Georgia coast, USA

  • A preliminary consideration of craft production and settlement expansion on Ossabaw Island, Georgia, USA

Carey J Garland, Brandon T Ritchison et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Island and Coastal…•2021•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 14

This report presents findings from recent systematic surveys and excavations at the site of Finley’s Pond (9CH204) to evaluate craft production (e.g., shell beads) and settlement expansion on Ossabaw Island, Georgia, within the context of larger social, political, and economic changes that occurred along the Georgia coast over the last millennia. Shovel tests and excavation units were conducted at Finley’s Pond as part of the University of Georgi…
