Association of social vulnerability index and masking adherence among children enrolled in Covid-19 community research partnership study
Despite being at risk for more severe outcomes with COVID-19, children with high SVI had lower levels of masking adherence compared to those with low SVI. Our findings highlight opportunities for improved and targeted messaging in these vulnerable communities
Disparities in Level of Care and Outcomes Among Patients with Covid-19
Survey of Adherence with Covid-19 Prevention Behaviors During the 2020 Thanksgiving and Winter Holidays Among Members of the Covid-19 Community Research Partnership
Prevention behaviors represent important public health tools to limit spread of SARS-CoV-2. Adherence with recommended public health prevention behaviors among 20000 + members of a COVID-19 syndromic surveillance cohort from the mid-Atlantic and southeastern United States was assessed via electronic survey following the 2020 Thanksgiving and winter holiday (WH) seasons. Respondents were predominantly non-Hispanic Whites (90%), female (60%), and ≥…
Evaluating Racial/Ethnic Differences in Care Escalation Among Covid-19 Patients in a Home-Based Hospital
Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Setting Choice for Adults Seeking Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Testing
OBJECTIVES: Equitable access to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) testing is important for reducing disparities. We sought to examine differences in the health care setting choice for SARS-CoV-2 testing by race/ethnicity and insurance. Options included traditional health care settings and mobile testing units (MTUs) targeting communities experiencing disproportionately high coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) rates. MET…
Outcomes of emotional support in dating relationships
This study tests the relational turbulence model by considering how qualities of dating relationships may polarize positive evaluations of partner supportiveness and emotional improvement following an interaction about a stressful experience. Sentiment override , which is the tendency for negative relationship qualities to attenuate positive evaluations of a partner, was evaluated as a competing hypothesis. Using a laboratory‐based observation me…
Differentiating declining commitment and breakup using commitment to wed
The relationship literature describes that declining commitment leads to breakup. The goal of this manuscript is to distinguish declining commitment and breakup to clarify this claim to better understand relationship processes. Data comes from a longitudinal study of heterosexual dating couples ( N = 180). Both individuals in the relationship independently graphed changes in commitment to wed their partner and reported reasons for each change mon…
Emotional Support and Physiological Stress Recovery
This study evaluated the effect of support matching, perceived support adequacy, and support invisibility on physiological stress recovery. Participants (N = 103) received supportive messages from a dating partner after completing a series of stressful tasks and receiving negative performance feedback. Participants reported their general preferences for emotional support before the interaction, and afterward they evaluated support adequacy and th…
The Effect of Relationship Characteristics and Relational Communication on Experiences of Hurt From Romantic Partners
This study expands the relational turbulence model (RTM; Solomon & Knobloch,) by theorizing about how characteristics of relationships and relational judgments influence people's experiences of hurtful messages. Previous applications of RTM to hurt have uncovered associations among relational characteristics that influence people's hurtful experiences; however, the process by which these characteristics influence experiences of hurt remains uncle…
Explaining Variation in Contemporaneous Responses to Hurt in Premarital Romantic Relationships
The authors use the relational turbulence model to derive hypotheses linking characteristics of relationships and reactions to hypothetical hurtful messages from a romantic relationship partner. It was hypothesized that relational uncertainty and perceptions of goal interference and facilitation from a partner predict perceptions of relational turbulence, which in turn predicts the intensity of hurt feelings, negative emotions, and the perceived …
Relational uncertainty and cortisol responses to hurtful and supportive messages from a dating partner
This article evaluates theoretical claims linking relational uncertainty to experiences of stress during interactions with a partner. Two observational studies were conducted to evaluate the association between relational uncertainty and salivary cortisol in the context of hurtful and supportive interactions. In Study 1, participants ( N = 89) engaged in a conversation about core traits or values with a partner, who was trained to be hurtful. In …
Accuracy and bias in perceptions of emotionally supportive communication in marriage
This study examined accuracy and bias within people's perceptions of a spouse's emotionally supportive behavior in the United States. Hypotheses stated that people's self‐reported supportiveness, their marital satisfaction, and outside observers' ratings of their partner's support predict people's perceptions of their partner's supportiveness. Married dyads ( N = 100) completed measures of marital satisfaction, engaged in a discussion about perso…
