The processing bias of verbal emotional information in depression prone individuals
Exploring nonsuicidal self-injury in adolescents with emotional disorders
Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is prevalent and strongly associated with suicide deaths in adolescents. As such, understanding the physiological and psychological factors influencing NSSI is crucial for developing targeted interventions. This study explored neurophysiological and emotional factors for NSSI in adolescents with emotional disorders. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from 108 adolescents, including 39 in the NSSI gr…
Utility, benefits, and risks of newborn genetic screening carrier reports for families
Background: Newborn genetic screening (NBGS) based on next-generation sequencing offers enhanced disease detection and better detection rates than traditional newborn screening. However, challenges remain, especially around reporting the NBGS carrier results. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the NBGS carrier parents' views on NBGS and NBGS reports in China. Methods: We distributed a survey querying demographic information, knowledge and percept…
Newborn genetic screening is highly effective for high-risk infants
Background: Newborn genetic screening (NBGS) is promising for early detection of genetic diseases in newborns. However, little is known about its clinical effectiveness in special groups like high-risk infants. To address this gap, we aimed to investigate the impact of NBGS on high-risk infants. Methods: We screened 10 334 healthy newborns from the general maternity unit and 886 high-risk infants from the neonatal ward using both traditional newb…
The relationship between mindfulness and mental distress in Chinese people during the Covid-19 pandemic
The current study investigated the moderating effects of COVD-19 infection severity of region of residence, and the mediating effects of resilience and self-efficacy, on the relationship between mindfulness and mental distress during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 1,220 participants from 107 cities in China took part in a cross-sectional survey. The data were collected during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic (from April 10 to June 10,…
Perceived control and purchase intention in online shopping
We investigated whether or not self-efficacy mediated the enhancing effect of perceived control on purchase intention in online shopping. We randomly assigned 263 participants to experimental conditions in which they encountered different customer services. We assessed their perceived control, self-efficacy, and purchase intention via a self-evaluation survey. Results indicated that participants with the availability of live customer service had …
Mental Disorders and Related Factors in College Students from Nontraditional Families in China
Little is known about mental disorders and related factors in college students from nontraditional families in China. We administered the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (Chinese version) and the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R; Chinese version) to 3,338 college students, 2,745 from traditional families and 593 from nontraditional families. The results showed that students in a stepfamily had the highest SCL-90-R scores, …
Physical Activity, Self-Esteem, and Mental Health in Students from Ethnic Minorities Attending Colleges in China
We investigated the relationships among physical activity, self-esteem, and mental health in students at colleges in China who are from ethnic minorities. We administered the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R) to 849 participants. The results showed that total physical activity and moderate intensity activity had significant negative correlations with the respe…
