Given our ever increasing hunger for bi-visibility, we searched where the dominant culture would most likely put us-namely, in stereotypical situations. The Pleasure and Pain of Chasing Amy
Kevin Smith's film Chasing Amy met with a great diversity of response among lesbians, gays, and bisexuals. Some lauded the film as an honest and complex exploration of sexuality, while others castigated it for portraying what they took to be stereotypical, even homophobic characters. Date and acquaintance rape is a pervasive problem on college campuses. This study assessed the influence of both situational factors and individual differences on college men's perceptions of acquaintance and date rape scenarios. Onset of refusal and duration of relationship factors were found to have influenced men's perceptions of victim and perpetrator accountability as well as their likelihood to label a situation rape.
