Flexible Work Arrangements and Quality of Life in Older Workers
Effects of medical interventions on health-related quality of life in chronic disease – systematic review and meta-analysis of the 19 most common diagnoses
Introduction: The demographic shift leads to a tremendous increase in age-related diseases, which are often chronic. Therefore, a focus of chronic disease management should be set on the maintenance or even improvement of the patients' quality of life (QoL). One indicator to objectively measure QoL is the EQ-5D questionnaire, which was validated in a disease- and world region-specific manner. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic lite…
A Framework for Measuring Neighborhood Walkability for Older Adults—A Delphi Consensus Study
While mobility in older age is of crucial importance for health and well-being, it is worth noting that currently, there is no German language framework for measuring walkability for older adults that also considers the functional status of a person. Therefore, we combined the results of an expert workshop, a literature review, and a Delphi consensus survey. Through this, we identified and rated indicators relevant for walkability for older adult…
Impact of episodic and chronic vestibular disorders on health-related quality of life and functioning—results from the DizzyReg patient registry
Malnutrition and related risk factors in older adults from different health-care settings
Objective: The origin of malnutrition in older age is multifactorial and risk factors may vary according to health and living situation. The present study aimed to identify setting-specific risk profiles of malnutrition in older adults and to investigate the association of the number of individual risk factors with malnutrition. Design: Data of four cross-sectional studies were harmonized and uniformly analysed. Malnutrition was defined as BMI 2 …
Quality of life in older individuals with joint contractures in geriatric care settings
Relevance of community structures and neighbourhood characteristics for participation of older adults
Impact of vertigo and dizziness on self-perceived participation and autonomy in older adults
Indicators for Healthy Ageing — A Debate
Definitions of healthy ageing include survival to a specific age, being free of chronic diseases, autonomy in activities of daily living, wellbeing, good quality of life, high social participation, only mild cognitive or functional impairment, and little or no disability. The working group Epidemiology of Ageing of the German Association of Epidemiology organized a workshop in 2012 with the aim to present different indicators used in German studi…
Distribution and determinants of functioning and disability in aged adults - results from the German Kora-Age study
In conclusion, this study could show that there are vulnerable subgroups of aged adults who should receive increased attention, specifically women, those with low income, those over 80, and persons with joint or eye diseases. Physical activity, obesity and malnutrition were identified as modifiable factors for future targeted interventions
Consequences of visual height intolerance for quality of life
P2-479 Determinants of functioning and disability in aged persons
Background Cryptic genetic variation (CGV) is the hidden genetic variation that can be unlocked by perturbing normal conditions. CGV can drive the emergence of novel complex phenotypes through changes in gene expression. Although our theoretical understanding of CGV has thoroughly increased over the past decade, insight into polymorphic gene expression regulation underlying CGV is scarce. Here we investigated the transcriptional architecture of C…
Comparing the clinical effectiveness of different new-born hearing screening strategies. A decision analysis
We have shown that UNHS is able to detect hearing impairment at an earlier age and more accurately than selective RS. Further research should be carried out to establish the effects of hearing loss on the quality of life of an individual, its influence on school performance and career achievement and the differences made by early fitting of a hearing aid on these factors
