Do High School Students Learn More or Shift Their Beliefs and Attitudes Toward Learning Physics with the Social Constructivism of Problem-Based Learning
Rooted in social constructivist learning theory, problem-based learning (PBL) is a tool that deepens students’ learning of complex subjects and improves students’ attitudes and beliefs towards learning. Physics is a subject that students themselves view as challenging. When taking physics, students develop negative beliefs about their own learning of the subject. There is a call for more innovation in the subject area of physics. This study addre…

Middle and high school girls’ attitude to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics career interest across grade levels and school types
The aim of this study is to examine Kazakh female students’ interest in STEM professions. A convenient sampling method was used to determine the participants from 10 girls’ schools in Almaty city in Kazakhstan. 522 girls from grades 7th to 11th provided answers to the “STEM Career Interest Survey” which was administered online. Collected data was analyzed to see how girls’ STEM carries interest change according to the type of school and grade lev…
Middle‐ and secondary‐school students' STEM career interest and its relationship to gender, grades, and family size in Kazakhstan
Despite pervasive educational efforts, student interest in STEM careers continues to decline in many countries. The present study seeks to better understand this phenomenon by examining how internal factors (gender) and external factors (school grades, grade level, family size) relate to Kazakh students' STEM career interests. To this end, a newly developed instrument (STEM Career Interest Survey) based on social cognitive career theory was used …
Content and Language Integrated Learning Implementation Through Team Teaching in Biology Lessons
Can engaging university students in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) increase their achievement in Biology and English language? The current study explored the effectiveness of team teaching enhanced CLIL on student achievement. Framed in interdisciplinary/cross-curricular teaching, we examined the effect of CLIL strategy on student achievement in a quasi-experimental study with a sample of Biology education students ( N = 25) assi…
Open Lesson as a Means of Teachers’ Learning

How distinctive is the foreign language enjoyment and foreign language classroom anxiety of Kazakh learners of Turkish
The present study focuses on foreign language enjoyment (FLE) and foreign language classroom anxiety (FLCA) of 592 learners of Turkish as a foreign language (FL) in Kazakhstan. Mean levels of FLE and FLCA were found to be similar to previous studies in different settings with different target languages. In contrast with previous literature, a weak positive correlation was found between FLE and FLCA and the gender effect went in the opposite direc…
