Awmdawm (Freedom) as a Kachin Political–Theological Discourse
This essay examines a Kachin concept of Awmdawm and substantiates it as a Kachin political–theological discourse. Whereas existing Kachin understanding confines Awmdawm to a freedom from outside political dominance, this essay deepens the meaning to (a) justice as a defining theme of Awmdawm and Karai Kasang (Supreme Being) as its source (b) Awmdawm as Kachinness, and (c) Awmdawm as a cry of an oppressed for justice and freedom
