Health-related quality of life in chronic kidney disease patients in low- and lower-middle income countries
CKD patients in LLMICs experience substantial deterioration in quality of life, particularly at advanced stages. Compared to high-income settings, HRQoL scores in LLMICs remain markedly lower, revealing major global inequities. This first region-specific synthesis provides benchmarks for HRQoL across CKD stages and underscores the need for earlier intervention and broader access to transplantation
Mortality trends in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan faces evolving mortality challenges, with stark regional disparities and a concerning rise in neurological disorders. These findings underscore the need for targeted public health interventions and improved cause-of-death reporting
Association between menopause and occupational burnout in healthcare workers
The increased proportion of women in the workplace and the labor force aging have been demanding investigations of the link between menopause and occupational health issues, especially in healthcare settings. Evidence on the association between menopause and occupational burnout in healthcare settings is still inconclusive. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the association between menopause and burnout among clinical and non-clinical workers in dif…
Who Else If Not Us
Little is known about the experiences of frontline professionals in Kazakhstan. Although studies of frontline workers have been conducted worldwide, it is imperative that caution should be exercised when extrapolating findings from disparate societies and generalizing them to Central Asian countries. As such, the purpose of this study was to explore and describe the firsthand experiences, perceptions, and knowledge gained from the experience of K…
Epidemiological characteristics and climatic variability of viral meningitis in Kazakhstan, 2014–2019
Background: The comprehensive epidemiology and impact of climate on viral meningitis (VM) in Kazakhstan are unknown. We aimed to study the incidence, in-hospital mortality and influence of climatic indicators on VM from 2014 to 2019. Methods: Nationwide electronic healthcare records were used to explore this study. ICD-10 codes of VM, demographics, and hospital outcomes were evaluated using descriptive statistics and survival analysis. Results: D…
Associations of Clusters of Cardiovascular Risk Factors with Insulin Resistance and Β-Cell Functioning in a Working-Age Diabetic-Free Population in Kazakhstan
Cardiovascular risk factors aggregate in determined individuals. Patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have higher cardiovascular This study aimed to investigate insulinresistance (IR) and β-cell function using the homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) indexes in a general Kazakh population and determine the effect he effect that cardiovascular factors may have on those indexes. We conducted a cross-sectional study among employees of the Kh…
Unveiling the Role of the Work Environment in the Quality of Life of Menopausal Physicians and Nurses
These findings reflect differences between the menopause effects related to work environment for doctors and nurses, and shed light on the specific challenges faced by them during menopause. In addition, it is important to consider socio-demographic and workplace-related factors in investigating their impact on the QoL
Monkeypox
As the world continues to endure the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, an outbreak of Monkeypox occurs and continues to spread unabatedly. The double-stranded DNA monkeypox virus is a sylvatic zoonosis, which occasionally infects humans and is a member of the genus Orthopoxviruses. Although scientists believed the virus to have low transmissibility, the speed and degree with which it spreads is alarming and could land one in a hospital or even kil…
Prevalence of Impaired Fasting Glucose and Type 2 Diabetes in Kazakhstan
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a serious public health problem. A large proportion of patients with T2DM are unaware of their condition. People with undiagnosed T2DM are at a greater risk of developing complications, whereas prediabetes has an elevated risk of becoming T2DM. The aim of this study is to estimate the prevalence of impaired fasting glucose (IFG), undiagnosed and prior-diagnosed T2DM in Kazakhstan. A cross-sectional study was con…
Seropositivity of Sars-CoV-2 in the Population of Kazakhstan
The data on seroprevalence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in Kazakhstani population are non-existent, but are needed for planning of public health interventions targeted to COVID-19 containment. The aim of the study was to estimate the seropositivity of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the Kazakhstani population from 2020 to 2021. We relied on the data obtained from the results from "IN VITRO" laboratories of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays for class G …
Detection of the Frail Elderly at Risk of Postoperative Sepsis
With the increase in the elderly population, surgery in aged patients is seeing an exponential increase. In this population, sepsis is a major concern for perioperative care, especially in older and frail patients. We aim to investigate the incidence of sepsis in elderly patients receiving diverse types of surgical procedures and explore the predictive capacity of the Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFRS) to identify patients at high risk of inciden…
An Update on Resources, Procedures and Healthcare Provision in Pain Units

Complex methods to assess complex problems
Background and Objectives: Endometriosis is a benign, although chronic painful condition that represents a major burden in women’s life, affecting all the domains of their health related quality of life (HRQL). The objective of this work is to conduct a Systematic Review of Systematic Reviews assessing HRQL of women with endometriosis, and to test a methodology based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) to assess factors associated with losses of…

Objectives: This study explores whether and how self-management support (SMS), a key element of well-coordinated chronic care, is integrated into existing chronic care approaches in 13 European countries
In-hospital mortality after stomach cancer surgery in Spain and relationship with hospital volume of interventions
Despite the limitations of our study, our results corroborate the existence of patient, clinical, and intervention factors associated to greater hospital mortality, although we found no clear association between the volume of cases treated at a centre and hospital mortality
