  • Die keuse van ’n model vir inhoudsanalise van preke oor armoede en aan armes as hoorders

    Open Access•H J C Pieterse•ARTICLE•In die Skriflig/In Luce Verbi•2010

A model for content analysis of sermons on poverty and to the poor as listeners The argument in this article is that the leading research question for content analysis of sermons has an influence on the choice of a model for research analysis. The author is searching for a suitable model for sermon analysis in order to analyse sermons on poverty and those directed to the poor. Different authors worked in this field of research, e.g. Cilliers (198…

  • Don't accuse me of being anti-semantic. Some of my best friends are words

    Henning Pieterse, H J C Pieterse•ARTICLE•Language Matters•2003

In this article the question is posed whether certain semantically ‘loaded’ terms and phrases used during various wars fought since 1968 have undergone semantic shifts, and whether they can still be accommodated under certain figures of speech such as irony, hyperbole and euphemism, all with their inherent dichotomies. It is argued that all these terms can be accommodated under one superordinate, namely ‘doublespeak’. The article firstly addresse…

  • Die rol van rituele en simbole in die identiteitsvorming van 'n geloofsgemeenskap - 'n Gereformeerde perspektief

    Open Access•H J C Pieterse•ARTICLE•Verbum et Ecclesia•1998

The role of rituals and symbols in the identity of a faith community - a Reformed perspective The political dispensation in South Africa since 1994 marginalised Afrikaansspeaking Dutch Reformed church members in the new South African society. Their identity is under pressure in a dominant culture that differs from their own. Anxiety and feelings of insecurity about their existence in the future are rife among many people in this church. In this c…

  • Bybelwetenskaplike navorsing en die geloof van die gemeente

    H J C Pieterse•ARTICLE•Religion and Theology•1996

The results of research by Old and New Testament scholars in the realistic-critical tradition points to the historical Jesus being nothing more than a Jewish prophet. Research by practical theologians and sociologists of religion about the faith of the people regarding Jesus produced a variety of perspectives. When biblical scientists communicate their results on who Jesus was to members of the church this will be only one perspective among a var…

  • The role of Christian church leaders in the peace process in South Africa

    H J C Pieterse, Malan Nel et al.•ARTICLE•Religion and Theology•1994

The objective of this article is to progress descriptively within the first phase of the research process, namely observation towards a problem statement. On the basis of interviews with Dr LouwAlberts and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, literature, a survey on violence by the HSRC, and press reports we describe the role of Christian church leaders in the peace process which culminated in the National Peace Accord. Our research identified a problem whic…

  • ReligioUs Beliefs and Ethnocentrism

    Peer Scheepers, P L H Scheepers et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Theology•1991

In 1990 the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa denounced publicly the ethnocentric system of apartheid as sin. The question is whether this official concession implies that ethnocentrism and apartheid have disappeared in the conciousness of ordinary perople. In order to answer this question a select sample of white South Africans in the Pretoria region was investigated with regard to their attitudes concerning ethnocentrism and apartheid as we…

  • N Dialogiese kommunikasieteorie vanuit 'n Prakties-Teologiese perspektief

    Open Access•H J C Pieterse•ARTICLE•Verbum et Ecclesia•1988

A dialogical theory of communication from a practical theological perspective For our practical theological reflection on the communication of the gospel in ministry, we need a sound theory of communication. We choose for a dialogical theory of communication which suits the nature of Christian communication. This theory is developed with insights from theology and philosophy. The roots of a dialogical theory of communication are found in the thou…

  • Praktiese Teologie mondig

    Open Access•H J C Pieterse•ARTICLE•Verbum et Ecclesia•1986•Citada por: 1

Sedert die Praktiese Teologie in 1774 as universiteitsvak in Oostenryk ingestel is, was sy legitimiteit as 'n wáárdige universiteitsvak steeds twyfelagtig.
