  • Illuminating deep-sea considerations and experimental approaches for mCDR proposals

Open Access•Natalya D Gallo, Anna Metaxas et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

  • Indigenous sea gardens within the Pacific Northwest generate partial trophic niche and dietary fatty acid shifts in littleneck clams ( Leukoma staminea)

Open Access•Octavio Cruz Coto, Andrew Thurber et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2023

Pacific Northwest Indigenous communities historically managed terrestrial and marine environments to increase the productivity and access of traditional foods. Sea gardens, also called clam gardens, were an Indigenous aquaculture method that increased traditional food habitat for targeted food species such as bivalves. This study utilized fatty acid biomarker analysis alongside stable isotopic analysis with bivalve condition indices of traditiona…

  • Antarctic ecosystem responses following ice‐shelf collapse and iceberg calving

    Open Access•Jeroen Ingels, Richard B Aronson et al.•ARTICLE•Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews…•2020•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

The calving of A‐68, the 5,800‐km 2 , 1‐trillion‐ton iceberg shed from the Larsen C Ice Shelf in July 2017, is one of over 10 significant ice‐shelf loss events in the past few decades resulting from rapid warming around the Antarctic Peninsula. The rapid thinning, retreat, and collapse of ice shelves along the Antarctic Peninsula are harbingers of warming effects around the entire continent. Ice shelves cover more than 1.5 million km 2 and fringe…

  • Major impacts of climate change on deep-sea benthic ecosystems

    Open Access•Andrew K Sweetman, Andrew R Thurber et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2017

The deep sea encompasses the largest ecosystems on Earth. Although poorly known, deep seafloor ecosystems provide services that are vitally important to the entire ocean and biosphere. Rising atmospheric greenhouse gases are bringing about significant changes in the environmental properties of the ocean realm in terms of water column oxygenation, temperature, pH and food supply, with concomitant impacts on deep-sea ecosystems. Projections suggest…
