A case-mix classification system for nursing home residents is developed, based on a sample of 7,658 residents in seven states. The role of dementia and other mental disorders in nursing home case-mix classification systems has been an area of controversy. The Long-Term Home Health Care Program (LTHHCP), also known as the Nursing Homes Without Walls, is an innovative, comprehensive Medicaid program in New York State that provides nursing home level of care to patients at home.
