Deposits Stratigraphy of Marmot Cave in Northwestern Altai
The article presents the results of a lithological and stratigraphic investigation of deposits in Marmot Cave, a new multilayered archaeological site in northwestern Altai, in the Anui River valley. The thickness of the deposits exposed in the cave mouth zone is 3 m. The article analyzes a non-stratified lithic complex collected in 1964 by the staff of the V.V. Bianki Biysk Museum of Local History in Ust-Kanskaya Cave in Central Altai. The collection comes from the dump of the 1954 excavations conducted by the expedition led by S.I. Rudenko. A total of 150 items, divided into three cultural and chronological groups, are considered. This article discusses collections of lithic artifacts from the Middle Pleistocene strata in the central part of the South Chamber in Denisova cave. This article presents first results of research in Beryozovka cave near the village of Beryozovka in Soloneshenoe District of Altai Krai. The karst cavity was located in the wall of a deep ravine which cut through the bedrock of the right slope of the valley and extended with its mouth to the Anui River 1.5 km from the cave.
