  • An artistic event in the system of literary genres and the problem of motif typology

    Igor V Silantev•ARTICLE•Sibirskii Filologicheskii Zhurnal•2025

The paper explores the specification of artistic events within the literary genre system. It demonstrates that in the genres of epic, lyric, and drama, artistic events acquire distinct characteristics and interact differently with the hero, narration, and reader (or spectator) instances. The typology of a motif, which serves as a generalization of semantically similar artistic events, can be based on the genre-specific differences. The essence of…

  • Lyrical Plot Formation in Modern Short Prose

    Open Access•Igor V Silantev•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2025

The article analyzes the poetics of contemporary writers working in the short fiction genre: Sergei Tikhanov, Evgeny Nikitin and Danila Davydov. It is shown that these authors employ different strategies of lyrical plot formation. Nikitin develops the vector of narrative movement from the chain of events to the lyrical plot, while Tikhanov’s narrative is transcended by ornamental text, the dynamics of which shapes the lyrical plot. Davydov reveal…

  • Cyclization of Short Prose in Modern Russian Literature

    Open Access•Igor V Silantev•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2024

Russian literature at the turn of the 20th – 21st centuries is marked by the systematic development of very short prose. Many people write it – novelists who are tired of large forms, poets who have felt an interest in the opposite type of artistic writing, as well as authors who initially form their poetics in this format. The format criterion in this case has a dual nature and functionality: the point of reference here is the actual volume of t…

  • Peculiarity of the memory plot in the poem by Boris Volkov “Brought on the scaffold”

    Elena N Proskurina, Igor V Silantev•ARTICLE•Sibirskii Filologicheskii Zhurnal•2022

The paper is devoted to the poetry of Boris Volkov, the forgotten author of the Eastern emigration (1894-1954). During his lifetime, only a single collection of his poems, “In the Dust of Foreign Roads,” was published in 1934. The plot movement in the book appears as the memory narrative, reflecting the dramatic life experience of the author. He finds himself in the very midst of Russian history, at the beginning of the 20th century: participatio…

This paper is devoted to the linguistic works by Alexander Evgenievich Anikin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on the occasion of his 70th anniversary. Alexander Anikin, a versatile philologist, has made a significant contribution to Russian, particularly dialectal and Ural-Altaic etymology. The linguistic tradition that Alexander Anikin adheres to is associated with the names of famous etymologists of the Russian language, Max Va…

  • Text universals as a theoretical concept

Yuri V Shatin, Igor E Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Sibirskii Filologicheskii Zhurnal•2021

The universals of the artistic language are fundamentally different from the universals of other language systems. The artistic language itself is opposed to both the so-called “natural” languages and artificial systems since it acts as a secondary modeling system resulting from the removal of such universals inherent in ordinary speech as automatism in the use of already existing statements, an orientation towards ease of understanding, etc. Sec…

  • Popular Science Topics of the Soviet Magazine Technique for Youth in the Ideological Aspect

    Open Access•Igor V Silantev•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2020

For many generations o…

  • Russian Judicial Discourse in the Light of the Modern Theory of Argumentation

    Open Access•Yu V Shatin, Yurii V Shatin et al.•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2020

The article discusses the main methods of argumentation in the judicial discourse of two large Russian lawyers of the second half of the 19 th century – A. F. Koni and F. N. Plevako for compliance with the argumentative scheme developed by the Cambridge School (D. Walton and others). The authors believe that, without any reliable theoretical support in connection with the decline of traditional rhetoric, the best jurists intuitively discovered th…

    Open Access•Igor V Silantev, Yu V Shatin•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2020

The article analyzes the impressionistic poetics of Boris Butkevich, a literary figure of the first wave of Russian emigration, a representative of the Harbin literary school. Like most impressionists, the composition of the poetic text by Boris Butkevich lacks a clearly defined beginning and end. The described lyrical situation can theoretically be continued in both directions. The reference points of impressions turn out to be significant, and …

    Open Access•Yu V Shatin, Yurii V Shatin et al.•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2019

The article discusses the prerequisites for the creation of a neo-rhetorical theory of the Brussels school. The authors proceed from the premise that the doctrine created by Ch. Perelman was not a one-step act, but was the result of a change in the scientific and philosophical paradigm of the first half of the twentieth century. Despite the fact that persuasiveness as the main core of the theory of argumentation was not known to scientists, in th…
