  • Farmers to urban citizens? Understanding resettled households' adaptation to urban life in Shaanxi, China

Open Access•Hua Guo, Guo Hua et al.•ARTICLE•Cities•2024•Citada por: 10•Referencias: 63

Rural to urban resettlement is a widely used poverty alleviation strategy in China's Shaanxi Province, with roughly 250,000 poor households being resettled between 2016 and 2020. This is a huge development intervention designed and implemented by the Chinese state that aims to fundamentally transform people's livelihoods, yet few studies have examined how rural people involved in these resettlements have adapted to their new urban life. This arti…

Open Access•Hua Guo, Guo Hua et al.•ARTICLE•Disasters•2023•Referencias: 50

A large-scale exchange of information between media across national borders is frequently observed when a worldwide public health emergency occurs. This study investigated the global news citation network in the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic by analysing the network structure at different levels to identify important nodes and the relationships among news organisations. The results show that COVID-19-related international news flow had a c…

  • Does Digital Inclusive Finance Effectively Promote Agricultural Green Development?—A Case Study of China

Open Access•Hua Guo, Guo Hua et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Agricultural green development is increasingly being discussed in sustainable development. This paper constructs agricultural green development from four dimensions: resource savings, environmental protection, ecological conservation, and quality industrialization. • Does Covid-19 Affect Household Financial Behaviors? Fresh Evidence From China

    Open Access•Hua Guo, Guo Hua et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2022•Referencias: 54

Based on online survey data from 2020, the present study employed a logit model to examine the effects of COVID-19 on household financial behaviors in China. Additionally, the KHB (Kohler, Karlson, Holm) model was employed to explore the pathway through which COVID-19 affects household financial behaviors. These analyses revealed that household saving and borrowing behaviors were more sensitive to COVID-19 than insurance and investment behaviors.…

  • The impact of corruption on firms’ access to bank loans

Open Access•Peisen Liu, Houjian Li et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Research-Ekonomska…•2020

Current theories cannot explain the coexistence of China’s 40 years of rapid economic growth and its imperfect financial system, insufficient investor protection, and government intervention. This study empirically tests hypotheses regarding the effects of corruption on firms’ access to bank loans using econometric models based on survey data of 2,848 enterprises in China collected by the World Bank. The results show an inverted U-shaped relation…

  • Unemployment Patterns of Local-Born and Migrant Youth in a Postcolonial Society

Open Access•Kumiko Shibuya, Hua Guo et al.•ARTICLE•The Annals of the American…•2020•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 30

In this study, we use postcolonial and migration literature to discuss the differences in the labor market participation of the local-born and migrant youth populations in Hong Kong. Hong Kong was a British colony until it was returned to China in 1997. Drawing on the 1996, 2006, and 2016 Hong Kong Census data, we use the "double cohort" method to compare how the birth and migration cohorts are related to the patterns of unemployment in Hong Kong…

  • The Indigenization and Internationalization of Educational Sociology Research and Other Matters

    Open Access•Guo Hua•ARTICLE•Chinese Education & Society•2001

In the Han (Chinese) language, adding hua to a noun or adjective to form a verb denotes transforming a certain quality or state, as for instance luhua [turn green], meihua [beautify], jixiehua [mechanize], and so forth. This indicates the measures taken to cause changes in things or the state of things after the changes. The "indigenizing" (bentuhua) and "internationalizing" (guojihua) of educational sociology research may also be understood in t…
