Anticipation may underestimate neuromechanical deficits in chronic ankle instability during walking inversion perturbations
Objective This study aimed to compare ankle kinematics and lower limb muscle activation between individuals with and without chronic ankle instability (CAI), both prior to and following an inversion perturbation during walking, with a particular focus on how anticipation modulates muscle activation and the consequent ankle inversion post-perturbation. Methods Forty-six participants were enrolled, including 23 with CAI and 23 age- and sex-matched …
Assessment of proprioceptive decline in chronic ankle instability
Proprioceptive deficits in CAI are modality-specific, primarily affecting kinesthesia, force sense, and landing proprioception. Among the impaired sub-modalities, landing proprioception has the strongest predictive value for CAI and can serve as a key target for clinical assessment and rehabilitation intervention
