Cardiovascular adaptations in judo
Judo is a high-intensity combat sport requiring substantial aerobic and anaerobic capacity. Although research has explored the physiological demands of different sports over the years, few studies have investigated the specific cardiovascular adaptations that occur in judoka. This narrative review examines these adaptations by focusing on cardiac function, heart rate variability (HRV), and hemodynamic responses, with the aim of summarizing the ef…

Kinematic analysis of the back squat at different load intensities in powerlifters and weightlifters
Introduction This study aimed to evaluate the angular kinematics of the hip, knee, ankle, and the linear kinematics of the barbell during the back squat (BS) at different load intensities in powerlifters and weightlifters. Methods Seventeen athletes were recruited ( n = 14 powerlifters; n = 3 weightlifters). The 1-RM of the BS of each participant was calculated and, 1-week after, each participant was asked to perform 5 trials of the BS at differe…
Analyzing the Relationship between Participation in Sports and Harmful Alcohol Drinking in Early Adolescence
Alcohol drinking is an important health-related problem and one of the major risk factors for a wide array of non-communicable diseases, while there is a lack of studies investigating environment-specific associations between sports participation and alcohol drinking in adolescence. This study prospectively investigated the relationship between sports factors (i.e., participation in sports and competitive achievement), with the prevalence of harm…

However, certain shifts in the fitness industry have been noted in the last decade. The development of wearable technologies and artificial intelligence is one of the leading fitness trends and undoubtedly represents the future of the f…
Are Health Literacy and Physical Literacy Independent Concepts? A Gender-Stratified Analysis in Medical School Students from Croatia
Health literacy (HL) and physical literacy (PL) are concepts responsible for achieving and maintaining positive health behaviors. This study aimed to investigate gender-specific associations: (i) between PL and HL; and (ii) among HL, PL, and body composition. We observed 253 students attending health-area high schools from southern Croatia (181 girls; 16.9 ± 1.4 years). HL was assessed by the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire, PL by t…
