  • Associations between body mass index and health-related physical fitness among Chinese university students

Open Access•Yan Li, Na Shi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2025

Obesity among university students is a growing concern with significant implications for physical and mental health. This study aims to examine the associations between body mass index (BMI) and health-related physical fitness among Chinese university students. Data were collected from 14,735 students (9,117 males and 5,618 females) aged 19–25 years. Physical fitness was assessed using the Chinese College Students' Physical Fitness Test, and BMI …

  • Quantile regression analysis of the association between parental rearing and interpersonal sensitivity in Chinese adolescents

Open Access•Yafeng Zhang, Wei Tian et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Parental rearing practices predict different magnitudes of IS at varying levels. This study provides suggestions for parents to assess purposefully and systematically, intervene, and ameliorate adolescent IS problems. We also highlight the role of paternal rearing in children's IS problems, providing new ideas for family education

  • Epidemiological study of hepatitis B and hepatitis C infections in Northeastern China and the beneficial effect of the vaccination strategy for hepatitis B

Open Access•Shishen Wang, Yuhui Tao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

The rate of HBsAg-positivity declined significantly following successful implementation of the policy on hepatitis B vaccination, indicating a beneficial impact on the control of HBV infection. However, only a slight decrease was observed in the anti-HCV-positivity rate, identifying an area in need of improvement within viral hepatitis prevention and control programs in China

  • Comparison of the Combined Obesity Indices to Predict Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Factors and Metabolic Syndrome in Northeast China

Open Access•Yuchun Tao, Jianxing Yu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

The more abnormal obesity indices that one has the higher the risk for CVD risk factors and MetS, especially in males. In addition, the combined obesity indices have better predictions than one obesity index, where BMI and WC are the optimal combinations

  • Menopausal Age and Chronic Diseases in Elderly Women

Open Access•Yingli Fu, Yaqin Yu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

Many factors affect menopausal age, and early or late onset of menopause may be associated with many chronic health problems. However, limited data are available regarding this phenomenon in the Northeast China population. For this study, 2011 elderly women were selected as a sample from participants in a cross-sectional survey performed using stratified, clustered multistage, and random sampling methods. Early menopause was more prevalent in sub…

  • Optimal cut-off of obesity indices to predict cardiovascular disease risk factors and metabolic syndrome among adults in Northeast China

Open Access•Jianxing Yu, Yuchun Tao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

The appropriate obesity index, with the corresponding optimal cut-off values, should be selected in different research studies and populations. Generally, the obesity indices and their optimal cut-off values are: BMI (24 kg/m 2 ), WC (male: 85 cm; female: 80 cm), WHR (male: 0.88; female: 0.85), WHtR (0.50), and BAI (male: 25 cm; female: 30 cm). Moreover, WC is superior to other obesity indices in predicting CVD risk factors and MetS in males, whe…

  • Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease and Their Clustering among Adults in Jilin (China)

Open Access•Jianxing Yu, Yonghui Ma et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

CVD risk factor clusters are common among adults in northeast China, and they constitute a major public health challenge. More effective attention and interventions should be directed toward the elderly and toward persons with lower incomes and low levels of education

  • Prevalence and Associated Factors of Passive Smoking among Women in Jilin Province, China

Open Access•Zhijun Li, Yan Yao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

The prevalence of passive smoking is lower than that reported in 2010 Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) China, but passive smoking is still prevalent and has been an acute public health problem among non-smoking women in Jilin Province, China. Our findings suggest an urgent need for tobacco control and the efforts of public health should be both comprehensive and focus on high-risk populations in Jilin Province, China

  • Smoking Prevalence and Associated Factors as well as Attitudes and Perceptions towards Tobacco Control in Northeast China

Open Access•Zhijun Li, Yan Yao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

Smoking and exposure to ETS are prevalent among adults from the Jilin Province of Northeast China. Our findings suggest that tobacco control should be advocated in Northeast China. Anti-smoking campaigns and legislation should be built into the public health curriculum and government policy
