  • Birth Order and Personality

    Open Access•B G Rosenberg•ARTICLE•Politics and the Life Sciences•2000•Referencias: 1

Frank Sulloway (1996) has stirred up great debate with his thesis that birth order explains and predicts people's proclivity to rebel. Scientists, scholars, business writers, and the broad reading and talk-television public alike all have weighed in to discuss the value and veridicality of Sulloway's thesis. Though many think he may be on to something, certain voices—Frederic Townsend's included—argue that his opus is simply bunk

  • A Revolution in Family Life

    Open Access•B G Rosenberg, Qicheng Jing•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Issues•1996•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 26

The present article examines the need for family policy, acknowledging its potentially invasive nature and emphasizing its profound impact on extended areas such as health, education, the status of women, and national economies. Using the enormous problem of overpopulation in China, the earth's most populous nation, we detail the problem, its development, and family policy as the Chinese government's response (the one‐child mandate) to the proble…

  • Tomboyism

    Open Access•Janet Shibley Hyde, B G Rosenberg et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Women Quarterly•1977•Citada por: 7

The meager research available on tomboyism is based on the assumption that it is rare and abnormal. Following an initial observation that 78% of a group of undergraduate women reported having been tomboys in childhood, the frequency of tomboyism was assessed in two samples, one of junior-high girls, the other of adult women. In the junior-high sample, 63% reported being tomboys, while 51% of the adult women reported having been tomboys in childho…

  • Are Pronounceability and Effort Ratings Psychologically Equivalent

    Open Access•Olin W Smith, Pietro Badia et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1969

Is Underwood and Schulz's (1960) pronounceability scale psychologically equivalent to Ryan and Smith's (1954) effort scale for work? CVCs with high or low m ′ values (Noble, 1961) were rated on both scales. Judgments of equivalence were inconsistent over S s and CVCs. The scales are not parallel by Gulliksen's (1950) criteria. They correlate .99 and over-all have nearly equal means, variances, and covariances. Differential effects of work on rate…

  • Pronounceability Ratings of Some CVCs

    Open Access•Olin W Smith, Pietro Badia et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1968

95 CVCs were rated for pronounceability ( p ') on a modification of Underwood and Schulz's 9-point scale. The correlation between testretest mean p ' ratings of the CVCs was .99. Correlation between mean p ' ratings of CVCs by two different groups of raters was .96. Mean p ' ratings of the two groups correlated .88 and .95 with Noble's m ' ratings of CVCs. Stability of the means in conjunction with the correlations is evidence that the p ' scale …

  • Representational Value, Meaningfulness, and Pronunciability in Serial Learning

    Open Access•Pietro Badia, B G Rosenberg et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1965

60 S s were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 verbal learning conditions involving a serial task. The differential effects on learning of stimuli representing referent dimensions (representational value) were contrasted with the more typical dimension of meaningfulness (association value). The relationship of pronunciability to those two dimensions was also evaluated. While data suggest that association value and, to some extent, representational value…
