  • Development, reliability, and validity of the quality of life scale for insomnia

Open Access•Naoko Ayabe, Isa Okajima et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

The QOL-I demonstrated good reliability and validity and is expected to be a valuable tool for clinically assessing the QOL of patients with insomnia

  • Associations between changes in habitual sleep duration and lower self-rated health among Covid-19 survivors

Open Access•Kentaro Matsui, Frances Chung et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Changes in habitual sleep duration following SARS-CoV-2 infection were associated with lower SRH. Decreased or increased habitual sleep duration might have a bidirectional relation with post-COVID-19 symptoms. Further research is needed to better understand the mechanisms underlying these relationships for in order to improve SRH in individuals with COVID-19

  • Prevalence and Factors Associated With the Risk of Delayed Sleep-Wake Phase Disorder in Japanese Youth

Open Access•Sayaka Tomishima, Yoko Komada et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

The risk of DSWPD seemed to be consistent with reports from Western countries, and individuals possibly affected by the disorder were thought to have deteriorated daytime functioning. In addition, lifestyle specific to youth, such as long-term LCD viewing at night and relatively loose social constraints, could be associated with the presence of DSWPD in this generation

  • Metabolic-Syndrome-Related Comorbidities in Narcolepsy Spectrum Disorders

Open Access•Kunihiro Futenma, Yoshikazu Takaesu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Narcolepsy types 1 (NT1) and 2 (NT2) and idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) are thought to be a disease continuum known as narcolepsy spectrum disorders (NSDs). This study aimed to assess the prevalence of and factors associated with metabolic-syndrome-related disorders (MRDs) among patients with NSD. Japanese patients with NSD (NT1, n = 94; NT2, n = 83; and IH, n = 57) aged ≥35 years were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. MRD was defined as havin…

  • Association of Subjective Quality and Quantity of Sleep with Quality of Life among a General Population

Open Access•Kentaro Matsui, Takuya Yoshiike et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

This study aimed to determine whether both subjective sleep quality and sleep duration are directly associated with quality of life (QOL), as well as indirectly associated with QOL through insomnia symptoms. Individuals aged 20–69 years without mental illness (n = 9305) were enrolled in this web-based cross-sectional survey. The Short Form-8 was used to assess physical and mental QOL. We used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and extracte…

  • Sleep Debt and Social Jetlag Associated with Sleepiness, Mood, and Work Performance among Workers in Japan

Open Access•Isa Okajima, Yoko Komada et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Although sleep debt and social jetlag (SJL) influence daytime dysfunctions, the effects of both sleep debt and SJL on them have not been analyzed. The aim of this study was to examine the mutual relationship between sleep debt and SJL on daytime sleepiness, mood, and work performance. This study was a cross-sectional study on sleep health conducted on the Japanese general population. A total of 4505 general workers (30% female, aged 43.57 ± 11.63…

  • The relationship between insomnia symptoms and work productivity among blue-collar and white-collar Japanese workers engaged in construction/civil engineering work

    Open Access•Momoko Kayaba, Taeko Sasai-Sakuma et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

The present study revealed the association between insomnia symptoms and work productivity, suggesting the necessity of early prevention of insomnia among both blue-collar and white-collar workers

  • Prevalence and associated factors of circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders and insomnia among visually impaired Japanese individuals

    Open Access•Norihisa Tamura, Taeko Sasai-Sakuma et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

CRSWD and insomnia were highly prevalent in visually impaired Japanese individuals. The presence of CRSWD among the visually impaired individuals was associated with a lack of light perception and/or social zeitgebers

  • Impact of sleep problems on daytime function in school life

Open Access•Momoko Kayaba, Toshiko Matsushita et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

Students with DSWP and BIISS + DSWP were significantly associated with daytime dysfunction in school life, i.e. absence, tardiness, falling asleep during class and interference with academic achievement. Students displaying BIISS + DSWP were considered to have a relatively more serious condition compared with those with only insomnia, DSWP, or BIISS. It is therefore of utmost importance that university students aim to prevent DSWP and BIISS which…

  • Velocity-Dependent Actomyosin ATPase Cycle Revealed by In Vitro Motility Assay with Kinetic Analysis

Open Access•William Stanley Jevons, Masaaki K Sato et al.•ARTICLE•Biophysical Journal•2012

The actomyosin interaction plays a key role in a number of cellular functions. Single-molecule measurement techniques have been developed to study the mechanism of the actomyosin contractile system. However, the behavior of isolated single molecules does not always reflect that of molecules in a complex system such as a muscle fiber. Here, we developed a simple method for studying the kinetic parameters of the actomyosin interaction using small n…

  • Sexual activities and social relationships of people with HIV in Japan

Yuichi Inoue, Yoshihiko Yamazaki et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2004

Sixty-one Japanese with sexually transmitted HIV were investigated to clarify the state of, and difficulties in, their sexual activities and social relationships. The study revealed the following difficulties in social relationships due to HIV infection. Thirty-one per cent had experienced discrimination or breach of confidentiality. Self-restriction due to anxiety over discrimination was observed in approximately 90%, and the self-restriction sc…

  • How HIV infected haemophiliacs in Japan were informed of their HIV-positive status

Yukiko Seki, Yoshihiko Yamazaki et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2002

The purpose of this study is to find out how HIV-infected haemophiliacs were informed and notified of their HIV infection. Self-reporting questionnaires were mailed to approximately 500 patients, about one half of the haemophiliac patients with HIV in Japan. The response rate was about 57% (n=283); and 270 (male=269) patients, apart from secondary and tertiary infected patients, were eligible as subjects for the study. The mean age was 31.2 +/- 9…
