  • Global, regional, and national burden of ischemic heart disease attributable to lead exposure, 1990–2021

Open Access•Xinyue Wen, Lichun Qiao et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Introduction: Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is a leading global health burden, with lead exposure identified as a significant environment risk factor contributing to its prevalence. Methods: Data from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2021 were used to analyze deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of IHD due to lead exposure at global, regional, and national levels. Decomposition analysis, frontier analysis, and Bayesian age-per…

  • Structural Analysis of Xenophobia

Huan Deng, Yujung Hwang•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2025

We develop and estimate a general equilibrium signaling game model of xenophobia, in which the reputational consequences of committing xenophobic acts are determined endogenously. Using our unique survey data, which enables the identification of the model, we find that reputational incentives are a key driver of xenophobic behavior, suggesting that policies targeting these motivations could be effective. We then apply this structural model to ass…

  • Resting-state fMRI graph theory analysis for predicting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors treatment response in adolescent major depressive disorder

Open Access•Xue Mo, Xuemei Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Pre-treatment functional network topological metrics differentiating responders and non-responders demonstrate potential as predictors for SSRIs treatment response in adolescents with MDD

  • Sex disparities of the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on mortality among patients living with tuberculosis in the United States

Open Access•Huan Deng, Yishan Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Background: We aimed to determine the trend of TB-related deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: TB-related mortality data of decedents aged ≥25 years from 2006 to 2021 were analyzed. Excess deaths were estimated by determining the difference between observed and projected mortality rates during the pandemic. Results: A total of 18,628 TB-related deaths were documented from 2006 to 2021. TB-related age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs) …

  • Emotional multisensory integration in 5- to 6-year-old children occurs early rather than late

Open Access•Jingting Zhu, Qian Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2024

  • Does "spicy girl" have a peppery temper? the metaphorical link between spicy tastes and anger

Open Access•Tingting Ji, Ting-Ting Ji et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2013

Drawing upon the theories of conceptual metaphors and embodiment, in the present study we systematically examined the metaphorical link between spicy tastes and anger. In terms of personality, the results showed that participants presumed strangers who liked spicy foods (e.g., chili peppers) were more easily angered (Experiment 1). In addition, we found that people who are higher in trait anger are more likely to have a spicy food preference (Exp…
