The Value Form and the Fetishism of the Commodity
Based on Uno’s new insight that in the first chapter on the commodity, the value of a commodity is not yet defined as objectified abstract labor, this article first examines the problems in Marx’s value form theory and presents a new understanding of the simple, the expanded, and the general value form, and reformulates the theory of the commodity into a dialectical whole composed of the world of commodities. Second, the article responds to Elena…
The reality of the law of value
In the wake of Böhm-Bawerk's criticism that Marx's law of value runs contrary to empirical facts, Marxian economics has developed mainly in two different directions: one based on the simple commodity production and the other on the mathematical identity of value with prices of production (the transformation problem). The author agrees with neither, arguing that Marx intended to base the law of value on the production process of capital, as in Cap…
Value-form and the mystery of money
Value-form is a theory Marx first developed in Capital vol.1 to solve the mystery of money. He seemed convinced that he had finally solved the mystery of money by reducing the money-form to the general value-form. However, his explanation of the transition from the latter to the former with the phrase 'by social custom' is not satisfactory. I consider that, as long as a logical derivation of the money-form from the general value-form is unsuccess…

Capitalist Exploitation and the Law of Value
Marx's value-theoretic account of capitalist exploitation and his historical account of exploitation by merchant and usurer's capital in Capital appear different. The theoretical and the historical accounts, however, belong to different levels of analysis: the first to the Principles of political economy and the second to the Stage theory of capitalist development. The historical, as distinct from the theoretical, significance of the law of value…

Unequal Equities
Despite its prominence in world finance, Japan's stock market has remained an enigma to many investors. This book aims to remove the mystery, revealing how Japanese corporations have moulded the market into a cheap source of capital; why most shares of corporations are held by other corporations; what the Keiretsu - secretive stockbroking, insurance and banking cartels - really do; and how the market's 1990 collapse affected these interlocking re…
