  • Validation of candidate SNPs and CpGs for human face prediction

Open Access•Wojciech Branicki, Maria Wrobel et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2026

Background: Human facial genetics remains challenging due to the complexity of facial morphology, its highly polygenic basis, and the combined influence of genetics, environment, age, and lifestyle on facial appearance. Objective: To develop predictors of human facial appearance that could aid facial reconstruction in forensic anthropology and predict facial appearance using DNA-based methods alone. Subjects and methods: Data from ~800 individual…

  • Decoding facial soft tissue thickness in the Polish population using multiplanar reconstruction

    Open Access•Beata Cienkosz-Stepańczak, Danuta Piniewska-Róg et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2026

Background: Forensic facial reconstruction (FFR) is an important tool in human identification, and its accuracy depends on the use of appropriate facial soft tissue thickness (FSTT) values. Contemporary FSTT data for Central European populations, including Poles, is scarce. The application of generalized values derived from ethnically heterogeneous groups may introduce errors and reduce the reliability of facial approximations. Objective: The aim…

  • A new perspectives on breastfeeding practice reconstruction in bioarchaeology – an oxygen isotopes study in an animal model

    Open Access•Aleksandra Lisowska Gaczorek, Beata Cienkosz-Stepańczak et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•2023

Research using stable isotopes for the reconstruction of breastfeeding strategies are based on assumptions that have not yet been verified by experimental studies. Interpreting the results of isotope analysis is associated with a certain degree of uncertainty, mainly due to the lack of information on how isotopes are distributed in mothers, breast-fed and weaned offspring. Culinary practices also can affect the interpretation of isotope results. …

  • Effect of a Short-Term Intervention with Lactobacillus salivarius Probiotic on Early Childhood Caries—An Open Label Randomized Controlled Trial

    Open Access•Małgorzata Staszczyk, Małgorzata Jamka-Kasprzyk et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

ECC is a significant therapeutic and social problem and a global burden on public health. The aim of this clinical trial was to test whether a 2-week daily consumption of chewing tablets containing thermally inactivated L. salivarius reduces the 12-month caries increment compared to the control group. The investigation was a single-center, randomized, controlled open-label, blinded end-point evaluation trial in two parallel groups. At baseline, 1…

  • Optimizing FTIR method for characterizing diagenetic alteration of skeletal material

    Open Access•Beata Cienkosz-Stepańczak, K Szostek et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2021•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 22

  • Oxygen stable isotopes variation in water precipitation in Poland – anthropological applications

    Open Access•Aleksandra Lisowska Gaczorek, Aleksandra Lisowska-Gaczorek et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•2017•Referencias: 38

The main objective of oxygen isotope analysis is to determine the probable place of origin of an individual or the reconstruction of migration paths. The research are methodologically based on referencing oxygen isotope ratios of apatite phosphates (δ18Op) to the range of environmental background δ18O, most frequently determined on the basis of precipitation. The present work is a response to the need for providing background for oxygen isotope s…

  • An analysis of the origin of an early medieval group of individuals from Gródek based on the analysis of stable oxygen isotopes

    Open Access•Aleksandra Lisowska Gaczorek, A Lisowska-Gaczorek et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2016

  • Strontium isotopes as an indicator of human migration – easy questions, difficult answers

Open Access•K Szostek, Katarzyna Mądrzyk et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•2015

Isotope analyses of bones and teeth allow us to study phenomena which occurred in the history of human species and which are difficult to capture by traditional anthropological methods. Measuring oxygen, nitrogen and carbon isotope levels in the skeleton makes it possible to reconstruct climatic changes, diet and/or the weaning process. Among isotopes used in such analyses are strontium isotopes, helpful in analysing migration and studying the mo…
