  • Cost-Effectiveness of the Strategies to Reduce the Incidence of Dengue in Colima, México

    Open Access•Oliver Mendoza‐Cano, Carlos Hernandez-Suarez et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

Dengue fever is considered to be one of the most important arboviral diseases globally. Unsuccessful vector-control strategies might be due to the lack of sustainable community participation. The state of Colima, located in the Western region of Mexico, is a dengue-endemic area despite vector-control activities implemented, which may be due to an insufficient health economic analysis of these interventions. A randomized controlled community trial…

  • Empirical evidence of the effect of school gathering on the dynamics of dengue epidemics

    Open Access•Carlos Hernandez-Suarez, Carlos M Hernández-Suárez et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2016

INTRODUCTION: Dengue fever is an important vector-transmitted disease that affects more than 100 countries worldwide. Locations where individuals tend to gather may play an important role in disease transmission in the presence of the vector. By controlling mosquitoes' breeding places, this study aims to analyze the effect of reducing transmission in elementary schools (grades 1-9) on the dynamics of the epidemic at a regional level. MATERIALS AN…

  • Factors that modify the larval indices of Aedes aegypti in Colima, Mexico

Open Access•Francisco Espinoza‐Gómez, Francisco Espinoza Gómez et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Panamericana de Salud…•2001

Some conclusions that can be drawn from this study are as follows: higher temperatures can reduce the larval indices during the dry season, the PCI can be an adequate estimator of the Ae. aegypti infestation rate, ULV spraying reduces the number of larval breeding sites, and the KAP score has little association with the larval indices
