Correlates of Health-Related Quality of Life in Community-Dwelling Older Adults in Guadeloupe (French West Indies)
Pain and IADL dependency were independently associated with lower HRQoL in community-dwelling older people in Guadeloupe
Older Adults and the Covid-19 Pandemic, What About the Oldest Old? The Pacovid Population-Based Survey
Introduction: The literature draws a mitigated picture of the psychosocial effects of the lockdown in older adults. However, the studies conducted so far are mainly based on web surveys which may involve selection bias. The PACOVID survey relies on a population-based design and addresses the attitudes, psychological and social experiences of the oldest old regarding the pandemic and lockdown and their impact. Material and Methods: Cross-sectional…
Effects of Age, Level of Education and HIV Status on Cognitive Performance in West African Older Adults
Do Individual and Geographical Deprivation Have the Same Impact on the Risk of Dementia? A 25-Year Follow-up Study
Psychosocioeconomic precariousness, but not geographical deprivation, is associated with a higher risk of dementia
Feelings of Loneliness and Living Alone as Predictors of Mortality in the Elderly
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to determine the predictive value of 2 indicators of psychosocial isolation (living alone and feelings of loneliness) in elderly people. METHODS: Twenty-two-year follow-up cohort study of 3,620 community-dwelling elderly people enrolled in the PAQUID study, a French prospective population-based study. Participants completed a battery of tests including the Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale and…

Social activity, cognitive decline and dementia risk
We observed a complex series of relationships between social-environment variables and cognitive decline and dementia. In the whole population, factors such as increased engagement in social, physical, or intellectual pursuits were related to a decreased risk of dementia. However, in a sub-population analysis, the social-environment variables were not linked to the heterogeneous patterns of cognitive decline and dementia risk that defined the sub…
Health and aging in elderly farmers
AMI is the first French longitudinal study on health and aging set up in a population of elderly farmers living in rural area through a multidisciplinary approach
The epidemiology of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in community-living seniors
By means of the multidisciplinary MemoVie study, new insights into the onset of cognitive impairment during aging should be put forward, much to the benefit of intervention strategies as a whole
What Aspects of Social Network Are Protective for Dementia? Not the Quantity But the Quality of Social Interactions Is Protective Up to 15 Years Later
OBJECTIVE: To test the association between several social networks variables reflecting both structural characteristics and quality of relationships with the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease 5 and up to 15 years later. METHODS: The study sample is gathered from the Paquid cohort, a French population-based study of 3,777 elderly people evaluated at baseline and regularly revisited during a 15-year interval. The sample consisted of 2,089 su…
Differences Between Men and Women in Social Relations, Resource Deficits, and Depressive Symptomatology During Later Life in Four Nations
This article examines gender differences in social relations and resource deficits in France ( N = 553), Germany ( N = 516), Japan ( N = 491), and the United States ( N = 514). These data, from regionally representative samples, indicate few gender differences in quantity or quality of social relations, but that women are more likely than men to experience widowhood, illness, and financial strain. In all countries, more deficits and more negative…
Neuropsychological Correlates of Self-Reported Performance in Instrumental Activities of Daily Living and Prediction of Dementia
This study examines the relationships between performance on neuropsychological tests and 4 instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) associated with an increased risk of dementia, in 1,792 nondemented elderly people included in the Personnes Agées Quid (PAQUID) study. There was a decline of neuropsychological performance on each test with increasing IADL dependency, in particular between Grades 1 and 2. Performances of the independent parti…
