  • Regulatory failure

    Open Access•Eva Fernández•ARTICLE•Historia Agraria Revista de…•2026•Referencias: 2

This article explores regulatory failure with regard to wine markets in Spain from 1936 to 1990. Wine market policies were often poorly designed, and compliance with measures such as planting restrictions or compulsory delivery of low-quality wines remained weak. From the early 1950s on, regulation was based on an assumption of permanent structural surplus. However, phases of surplus with low prices alternated with times of acute shortage accompa…

  • Borderline

    Open Access•Angel Parra-Sanchez, Vanessa Zorrilla-Muñoz et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Investigation…•2024

The past decade has seen a global increase in population age, especially in developed countries, where aging involves visual diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which severely affect quality of life (QoL) and mental health, as well as increase isolation and care costs. This study investigated how persons with AMD perceive the impact of technology use on their QoL, focusing on potential disparities between urban and rural cont…

• Product quality or market regulation? Explaining the slow growth of Europe's wine cooperatives, 1880–1980

    Open Access•Eva Fernández, James Simpson•ARTICLE•The Economic History Review•2016•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 6

Wine cooperatives were relatively scarce in Europe before the Second World War, but by the 1980s accounted for more than half of all wines made in France, Italy, and Spain, the three major producer countries. Unlike Danish dairy cooperatives, whose success before the First World War was linked to their ability to improve product quality and compete in high‐value niche markets, wine cooperatives are often associated with the production of large vo…

  • Selling agricultural products

    Eva Fernández•ARTICLE•Business History•2014•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 17

Co-operation among farmers is believed to contribute to the adoption of technological advances and marketing and commercial innovations, and the presence of co-operatives has been associated with agricultural growth and higher standards of living for farmers. This paper looks at the extent to which co-operatives for the production and marketing of agricultural products diffused in 13 countries during 1880–1930. Despite their important advantages,…

This article explores the role of culture in encouraging the diffusion of cooperation for the production and marketing of agricultural products, an organizational innovation that can be related to technical progress in the rural sector and higher living standards for farmers. The results of the zero-inflated negative binomial (ZINB) pooled regressions show that trust and religion were significant determinants of the diffusion of cooperatives amon…

Open Access•Cristina Gamba, Eva Fernández et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2011•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 29

The aim of this work was to investigate a very common situation in the archaeological and anthropological context: the study of a burial site containing several individuals, probably related genetically, using ancient DNA techniques. We used available ancient DNA and forensic protocols to obtain reliable results on archaeological material. The results also enabled molecular sex determination to be compared with osteological data. Specifically, a …

  • Unsuccessful responses to quality uncertainty

    Eva Fernández•ARTICLE•Business History•2010•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 14

This article argues that exporters' brands were an unsuccessful response to the problems of selling sherry in the British market caused by quality uncertainty. Sherry exporters' brands were unable to sustain their reputation and price advantage. The sale of sherry-type wines increased substantially after World War II to account for 50% of the British market, but exporters failed to take legal action against them. The inelastic supply of wines in …
