Adaptation and Psychometric Validation of the Greek Version of the Sensory Profile 2 Short Form
Background/Objectives : Sensory processing constitutes a fundamental neurobiological mechanism that allows individuals to perceive, interpret, and respond adaptively to sensory input. Atypical patterns of sensory processing are frequently observed in neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the G…
Clinical Aspects and Molecular Mechanisms of Cognitive Dysfunction in Children and Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) constitutes a chronic metabolic disorder attributed to the autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic β cells, which most frequently occurs in childhood. Long-term complications of T1D are expected to occur mainly in adult life, whereas cognitive dysfunction can also occur in children and adolescents with T1D. Most studies demonstrate mild cognitive impairment, especially in the domains of memory, attention and e…
Clinical Associations with Lenticulostriatal Vasculopathy (LSV) at Birth
This study indicated a relationship between LSV and increased head circumference and body length. Further research is warranted to explore LSV's pathophysiological mechanisms
Validation of the Greek Version of the Colorado Learning Difficulties Questionnaire
The Greek version of the CLDQ demonstrated acceptable reliability and good validity. Consistent with the original version, exploratory factor analysis identified five distinct factors. These findings support the Greek version of the CLDQ as a valid and reliable tool for assessing and screening students with learning difficulties in Greece
A Stress Management and Health Coaching Intervention to Empower Office Employees to Better Control Daily Stressors and Adopt Healthy Routines
The present pilot randomized control study examined the effectiveness of an 8-week stress management and health coaching intervention on perceived stress, healthy routines, sleep quality, self-efficacy, self-esteem and happiness. A total of 38 office employees were randomly assigned to the intervention group (IG, n = 20) or the control group (CG, n = 18) and validated tools were used to assess outcomes. Statistically significant differences in th…
Parenting Styles and Psychosocial Factors of Mother–Child Dyads Participating in the Endorse Digital Weight Management Program for Children and Adolescents during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Decreasing parental demandingness was associated with better weight outcomes, highlighting the importance of assessing parenting factors in pediatric weight management programs
Reliability and Validity of the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (Essa) in a Sample of Greek Students
This research outlines the initial validation of a new instrument to quantify academic stress, the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA). A total of 399 students (61.9% females, 38.1% males), with a mean age of 16.3 years, participated in the research protocol. Cronbach's α for the total 16-item ESSA scale was 0.878, suggesting good reliability. Cronbach's α for each one of the five components were statistically positively significant. …
Serum YKL-40 as a Potential Biomarker for Sepsis in Term Neonates—A Pilot Study
Although YKL-40 is a promising diagnostic biomarker of sepsis in adults, its value in neonatal sepsis is not known. The study objectives included assessing the levels and diagnostic value of serum YKL-40 in term neonates with sepsis and comparing YKL-40 with other commonly used inflammatory biomarkers. In this pilot case-control study, 45 term neonates (30 septic and 15 non-septic, as controls), 4 to 28 days old, were prospectively studied. The I…
Educational Stress among Greek Adolescents
Greek adolescent students experience high levels of educational stress during the school period. In this cross-sectional study, we examined various factors associated with educational stress in Greece. The study was conducted using a self-report questionnaire survey in Athens, Greece, between November 2021 and April 2022. We studied a sample of 399 students (61.9% females; 38.1% males, with a mean age of 16.3 years). We found that several factors…
Strong Correlations between Social Appearance Anxiety, Use of Social Media, and Feelings of Loneliness in Adolescents and Young Adults
Social appearance anxiety is a type of social anxiety that is associated with body image perception and exacerbated by the use of social media, leading to feelings of loneliness. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to examine the relations between social appearance anxiety, use of social media, and feelings of loneliness in Greek adolescents and young adults. The sample of the research consisted of 632 participants, 439 women (69.5%) an…
Stress and Well-Being of Greek Primary School Educators
The teaching profession has always been challenging, while for various reasons the magnitude of observed stress in teachers has been continually growing over time. This study was conducted to demonstrate the relevance of stress in this professional group and to generate evidence for the benefit of primary school teachers and, indirectly, their pupils. To this end, we examined a large number of school teachers in a descriptive cross-sectional stud…
Psychometric Validation of the Greek Version of the Scale “Temper Loss” of the Questionnaire “Multidimensional Assessment Profile of Disruptive Behavior (MAP-DB)”
It has become increasingly evident that vulnerability to psychopathology is identifiable early in life. A body of evidence suggests that the recognition and prevention of a spectrum of typical/atypical behaviors in preschoolers can lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment. The Multidimensional Assessment Profile of Disruptive Behavior (MAP-DB) is a parent-completed instrument that has been developed recently to differentiate normative misbehaviors…
The Effect of Pythagorean Self-Awareness on Heart Rate Variability, Perceived Stress and Behavior of Preschool Children
Stress is associated with unhealthy habits and non-communicable diseases. It is also linked to communicable diseases due to its impact on immune function. These can be prevented through intervention programs in schools. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the simplified Pythagorean Self-Awareness Intervention on heart rate variability (HRV) parameters, perceived stress and behaviors of preschool children. The sample of the study co…
Perceived Changes in Emotions, Worries and Everyday Behaviors in Children and Adolescents Aged 5–18 Years with Type 1 Diabetes during the Covid-19 Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent restrictive measures may be related to increased stress and anxiety and to changes in daily behaviors. Children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are a vulnerable group due to their difficulties in achieving glycemic control and to their medical and psychological comorbidities. The purpose of the current study was to the investigate the changes on emotional and behavioral parameters in children with T1D due to th…
Daily Behaviors, Worries and Emotions in Children and Adolescents with ADHD and Learning Difficulties during the Covid-19 Pandemic
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of the coronavirus crisis on behavioral and emotional parameters in children and adolescents with ADHD and Learning Difficulties. A total of 101 children, 5-18 years old, were included in the study, 63 (44 boys) of which were diagnosed with ADHD and learning difficulties (ADHD/LD) and 38 were healthy children (19 boys). The CRISIS questionnaire for parents/caregivers was used. The questi…
Low- and High-Attenuation Lung Volume in Quantitative Chest CT in Children without Lung Disease
In contrast to studies of adults with emphysema, application of fixed thresholds to determine low- and high-attenuation areas (air-trapping and parenchymal lung disease) in pediatric quantitative chest CT is problematic. We aimed to assess age effects on: (i) mean lung attenuation (full inspiration); and (ii) low and high attenuation thresholds (LAT and HAT) defined as mean attenuation and 1 SD below and above mean, respectively. Chest CTs from c…
