  • Attending to experience in narrative care

Open Access•Bodil Hansen Blix, Vera Caine et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Aging Studies•2026

Over the past years, attention has been drawn to how narrative ideas could be integrated in care practices. For many years, we have inquired into, challenged, and stretched the concept of narrative care. For us, narrative care is more than to acknowledge or listen to people's stories. We see care itself as an intrinsically narrative endeavor. We think of narrative care as an active and relational co-composition of experience - a way of making sen…

  • Beginning in Multiple Midst

    Open Access•Bodil Hansen Blix, Pamela Steeves et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2025•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 6

Narrative inquiry is often represented by using fragments of field texts. Drawing on a 4-year study alongside refugee families from Syria, we show the importance of acknowledging the multiple and nested contexts within which field texts are situated. We illustrate how each moment is reflective of being in the midst-of social, institutional, and cultural narratives, formula stories, multiple relationships, domestic details, and silences. Attending…

  • Entangling Reciprocity With the Relational in Narrative Inquiry

Open Access•Bodil Hansen Blix, Jean Clandinin et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2024

In this article, we develop, through drawing forward fragments of our experiences, a concept of reciprocity as always situated within the relational ontology of narrative inquiry. Reciprocity is most commonly understood within a transactional sense, an exchange of goods. We show important aspects of reciprocity in narrative inquiry, including the importance of intentionally creating and responding to spaces where reciprocity occurs and can be sus…

  • The necessity of a relational ethics alongside Noddings' ethics of care in narrative inquiry

    Open Access•Caine, Vera Caine et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Research•2020•Citada por: 9•Referencias: 7

Amidst a winter snow storm we drove slowly and carefully to our research site. Leaving much earlier than usual we wanted to be there to greet the indigenous youth who we had come to know in the process of inquiring into their ongoing identity making. We came to know them over several months in a junior high school arts club and had developed relationships with them that were marked by care. In attending to care, Noddings (1984) offered us a way t…

  • Exploring the Purposes of Fictionalization in Narrative Inquiry

    Open Access•Caine, M Shaun Murphy et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2017•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 8

Drawing on several studies we take up question about fictionalization in this article. In particular, we are interested in the intentions and purposes of fictionalization and discus these within the context of narrative inquiry. We draw attention to how fictionalizing has become a common and often unquestioned part of responding to concerns about anonymity raised by research ethics boards. We see three purposes for fictionalization: (a) protectio…
