  • Beginning in Multiple Midst

    Open Access•Bodil Hansen Blix, Pamela Steeves et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2025•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 6

Narrative inquiry is often represented by using fragments of field texts. Drawing on a 4-year study alongside refugee families from Syria, we show the importance of acknowledging the multiple and nested contexts within which field texts are situated. We illustrate how each moment is reflective of being in the midst-of social, institutional, and cultural narratives, formula stories, multiple relationships, domestic details, and silences. Attending…

  • Entangling Reciprocity With the Relational in Narrative Inquiry

Open Access•Bodil Hansen Blix, Jean Clandinin et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2024

In this article, we develop, through drawing forward fragments of our experiences, a concept of reciprocity as always situated within the relational ontology of narrative inquiry. Reciprocity is most commonly understood within a transactional sense, an exchange of goods. We show important aspects of reciprocity in narrative inquiry, including the importance of intentionally creating and responding to spaces where reciprocity occurs and can be sus…

  • Thinking With Perplexities in the Context of Social Inclusion, Refugees, and Schools

Open Access•Jennifer Dodd, Sean Lessard et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2023

In this article, we explore the ideas of thinking with perplexity. We draw on Addams (1902) understanding of perplexity that is interwoven with ethics. Through turning toward a research study alongside teachers who engage with refugee students in a Canadian kindergarten classroom, we make visible how a turn toward perplexity disrupts our taken for granted knowing and holds open the possibilities for growth. Drawing on field texts, conversations, …

  • Working With Indigenous Elders in Narrative Inquiry

Open Access•Sean Lessard, Isabelle Kootenay et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2021

The Canadian research context shifted with the adoption of the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and its focus on considerations of Indigenous peoples. Drawing on multiple years of working together, this article explores the experiences of members of a research team that includes Indigenous Elders. The authors revisit three significant research encounters: engaging in teachings of “silent walking,” engaging in teachings through th…

  • Considering Response Communities

    Open Access•Caine, Jean Clandinin et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2020•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 2

We focus on the place of response communities in narrative inquiry. While we have always engaged in response communities, the theoretical basis for their importance is not well developed. Experiences in response communities allow us to be, and live, in the world in ways marked by courage and vulnerability. Response communities are created to help us further our field texts and interim and final research texts and to provide insight into our prese…

  • Lugones's Metaphor of "World Travelling" in Narrative Inquiry

    Open Access•Georgia Dewart, Hiroko Kubota et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2020•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 9

The metaphor of "world traveling" has been taken up by researchers engaged in narrative inquiry. This metaphor provides a reference point throughout the research process for navigating relational processes. In this article, we unpack how the metaphor of "world travelling" shapes the writing of research texts in narrative inquiry and the meaning making inherent in shared texts. We draw on a narrative inquiry focused on the experiences of men who a…
