  • Attributable mortality to secondhand tobacco smoke exposure in the 27 Brazilian federal units in 2019

    Bibiana Wanderley-Flores, Julia Rey‐Brandariz et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2025

In Brazil, exposure to SHS is estimated to cause between 30 and 60 deaths per day. The mortality rates varied across federal units. Differences in the risk sources and the selection of health outcomes significantly influence mortality estimates. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening the enforcement of tobacco control policies by health authorities in Brazil

  • Perception of pregnant individuals, health providers and decision makers on interventions to cease substance consumption during pregnancy

    Open Access•Andrea Vila-Fariñas, Mónica Pérez‐Ríos et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Consistent with previous work, this study found that cessation strategies implemented by the health authorities are not effective if they are not accompanied by organizational and behavioral changes. The current study identifies a set of factors that could be pivotal in ensuring the success of treatment interventions targeting tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use among pregnant individuals

  • Attributable mortality to radon exposure in Galicia, Spain. Is it necessary to act in the face of this health problem

    Open Access•Mónica Pérez‐Ríos, Juan Miguel Barros-Dios et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

Although the estimates have been derived from a study with a relatively limited sample size, these results highlight the importance of radon exposure as a cause of lung cancer and its effect in terms of disease burden. Radon mitigation activities in the study area must therefore be enforced

  • Mortality attributable to passive smoking in Spain, 2002

    María J López, Mónica Pérez‐Ríos et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2007

Exposure to ETS at home and at work in Spain could be responsible for 1228-3237 of deaths from lung cancer and ischaemic heart disease. These data confirm that passive smoking is an important public health problem in Spain that needs urgent attention

  • The price of cigarettes in the European Union

    Agustín Montes, Joan R Villalbí•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2001
