  • The Company You Keep

Open Access•Tsahi Hayat, Dessislava Dimitrova et al.•ARTICLE•American Behavioral Scientist•2023•Referencias: 48

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected most organizations' working environment and productivity. Organizations have had to make arrangements for staff to operate remotely following the implementation of lockdown regulations around the world, as the pandemic has led to restrictions on movement and the temporary closure of workplace premises. The purpose of this paper is to gain a deeper understanding of the effect of this transition on productivity du…

  • The differential impact of network connectedness and size on researchers’ productivity and influence

Tsahi Hayat, Dessislava Dimitrova et al.•ARTICLE•Information Communication & Society•2020

We analyze the effect of different types of online and offline ties – acquaintanceship, advice, and co-authorship – on researchers’ productivity and influence. Unlike static studies of networked work, we look at how changes in these networks affected researchers’ performance and influence. Using the number of publications as an indicator of productivity and the number of citations as an indicator of influence, we investigate when researchers were…

  • The bear in Eurasian plant names

    Open Access•Kolosova, Valeria Kolosova et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnobiology and…•2017•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 15

Ethnolinguistic studies are important for understanding an ethnic group's ideas on the world, expressed in its language. Comparing corresponding aspects of such knowledge might help clarify problems of origin for certain concepts and words, e.g. whether they form common heritage, have an independent origin, are borrowings, or calques. The current study was conducted on the material in Slavonic, Baltic, Germanic, Romance, Finno-Ugrian, Turkic and …

  • Changing Ties in a Far-Flung, Multidisciplinary Research Network

    Open Access•Dessislava Dimitrova, Dimitrina Dimitrova et al.•ARTICLE•American Behavioral Scientist•2015•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 17

We study a multidisciplinary, geographically dispersed, and multi-institutional research network that shows the complex relationships in collaborative research. Although collaborative work ties declined, the number of friendship and advice ties stayed stable and acquaintanceship ties grew. Most researchers seem satisfied with the network and relish the opportunities for cross-disciplinary exchanges. The benefits of the network do not lie in the t…

  • Networked Work and Network Research

    Open Access•Dessislava Dimitrova, Dimitrina Dimitrova et al.•ARTICLE•American Behavioral Scientist•2015•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 20

There has been more hype than evidence about networked work. The researchers in the two parts of this double issue issue use survey, interview, and sensor data to present systematic evidence about how networked work actually works. The first part of the issue (April) presents four articles about how professionals network. The second part of the issue (May) focuses on a particular kind of networked work-scholarly networks-including studies of how …

  • Controlling teleworkers

    Open Access•Dessislava Dimitrova, Dimitrina Dimitrova•ARTICLE•New Technology Work and Employment•2003•Citada por: 15•Referencias: 11

This article revisits the issue of control and autonomy in telework using interviews with professional, managerial and sales teleworkers in a large Canadian telecommunications company. It finds that the changes in control and autonomy are limited to restructuring of the work schedules and the differences across teleworkers are reproduced

  • Computer Networks as Social Networks

    B Wellman, Janet Salaff et al.•ARTICLE•Annual Review of Sociology•1996•Citada por: 155•Referencias: 8

When computer networks link people as well as machines, they become social networks. Such computer-supported social networks (CSSNs) are becoming important bases of virtual communities, computer-supported cooperative work, and telework. Computer-mediated communication such as electronic mail and computerized conferencing is usually text-based and asynchronous. It has limited social presence, and on-line communications are often more uninhibited, …
