  • Palestine-Israel Conflict

Open Access•Tarek Ladjal, Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor•ARTICLE•Journal of Al-Tamaddun•2018

Realist and Rationalist approaches have been adopted from 1988-2013 in the Palestinian/Israeli conflict in the context of power and interest. The one-state solution, proposed in 1944 and 1964 by the Communist Party and the PLO, a rational proposal by then, was rejected by realists. In 1988, the two-state solution was brought to the international arena by the late PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat. His proposal was considered a compromise by traditional …

  • The Christian presence in North Africa under Almoravids Rule (1040–1147 CE)

Open Access•Tarek Ladjal, John Caruana•ARTICLE•Cogent Arts and Humanities•2017

This paper attempts an introspection on the Christian presence in Almoravids North Africa (1040–1147 CE). It argues that, contrary to the thesis that the Almoravids mistreated the Christians in the Maghreb; the Christians in fact enjoyed a range of freedoms and privileges under the auspices of the Almoravids, strikingly different to the limited freedoms enjoyed during the prior rule of the Idrisids (788–974) of the Maghreb. The Christian presence…

  • Tribe and state in the history of modern Libya

Open Access•Tarek Ladjal, Alexios Alecou•ARTICLE•Cogent Arts and Humanities•2016

Libya is among the few Arab countries with a social structure that has not changed and seems to have been little scathed by colonial policies in contrast with other Arab countries. This is especially true in the context of the Maghreb. Perhaps this is largely due to the deeply rooted tribal system in Libya. However, Libya has been subjected to certain transformations towards becoming a modern state. This paper attempts a reading of modern Libya i…

  • Sufism and Politics in Contemporary Egypt

    Open Access•Tarek Ladjal, Benaouda Bensaid•ARTICLE•Journal of Asian and African…•2015•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 3

Experts on Sufi movements relegate a rather significant and critical role for Sufism in the formation of redefined political forces on the new post-Arab Spring political map. This is particularly true for one of the most vibrant Sufi capitals of the Muslim world, Egypt, holding a record sum of more than 10 million Sufi members. In spite of this, however, one year after the Revolution in Egypt, political developments exhibited a pattern of failure…

  • Asian Hajj Routes

    Open Access•Tarek Ladjal•ARTICLE•Journal of Al-Tamaddun•2013

The rise of Islam in East and South-East Asia effectively marked a turning point in the political, cultural and economic history of the entire region. Changes that took place in this area were clearly reflected in activities of day to day life, particularly in the case of land and sea trips from and to these areas which were deeply influenced by the emersion of a new travelling destination; the Hajj (i.e., pilgrimage). In the past decades, these …

  • التصوف بين التوظيف السياسي والثابت التاريخي (Sufism between the Political Utilization and the Historical Facts)

Open Access•Tarek Ladjal, Ahmad Zaki Berahim @ Ibrahim et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Al-Tamaddun•2012

This paper discusses the relationship between Sufism and politics. The significance of this relationship presents itself at the heart of an emerging Western interest in Sufi political development. Western institutions have identified Tasawwuf as an internal mechanism imbedded in the Islamic system as viable option for shaping cooperation and understanding. Such an identification stems from factual ground realities embodied in certain Sufi schools…
