A European collaborative initiative to systematically map cancer risk by migration background
BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization (WHO) Action Plan for Refugee and Migrant Health highlights the need for strengthened migration health governance and data-informed policies. A major barrier in Europe has been the lack of systematically collected and comparable cancer data stratified by migration background. METHODS: This study assesses the availability of routine data to map and examines differences of cancer risk among those with a mig…
Global surveillance of trends in cancer survival 2000–14 (Concord-3)
BACKGROUND: In 2015, the second cycle of the CONCORD programme established global surveillance of cancer survival as a metric of the effectiveness of health systems and to inform global policy on cancer control. CONCORD-3 updates the worldwide surveillance of cancer survival to 2014. METHODS: CONCORD-3 includes individual records for 37·5 million patients diagnosed with cancer during the 15-year period 2000-14. Data were provided by 322 populatio…
Incidence of cancer in the area around Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in 1988–2003
The overall cancer incidence in the Schiphol area was similar to the national incidence. The moderately increased risk of hematological malignancies could not be explained by higher levels of ambient air pollution in the Schiphol area. This observation warrants further research, for example in a study with focus on substances in urban ambient air pollution, as similar findings were observed in Greater Amsterdam
