    Open Access•M C Langley, Anna Stevens et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025•Referencias: 9

Despite over 200 years of intensive academic interest in Pharaonic Egypt, little focus has been given to understanding the production, use, and diversity of the osseous material culture created by this enigmatic culture. Here, the authors present the identification of a bone whistle recovered from the Eighteenth Dynasty (late 14 th century bc ) city of Akhetaten (modern Amarna), Middle Egypt. Found at the Stone Village, a peripheral workers' sett…

  • Pigeons and papyrus at Amarna

    Open Access•C M Stimpson, Barry J Kemp•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2023•Referencias: 11

Ancient Egyptian art features many carefully observed depictions of wild animals and birds. A famous example is the late Eighteenth Dynasty (fourteenth-century BC) wall paintings of the Green Room in the North Palace at Amarna, where naturalistic depictions of birds feature prominently. Their taxonomic identity, however, is not resolved in all cases. Here, the authors revisit the facsimiles produced in the 1920s by Nina de Garis Davies. Mindful o…

  • Rock art imagery as a proxy for Holocene environmental change

    Open Access•Maria Guagnin, Richard P Jennings et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Citada por: 18•Referencias: 8

The animal species depicted in the rock art of Shuwaymis, Saudi Arabia, provide a record of Holocene climatic changes, as seen by the engravers. Of 1903 animal engravings, 1514 contained sufficient detail to allow identification with confidence. In addition, the stratigraphy of the engravings and the depiction of domesticates provide a broad chronological framework that allows a division into images created during the Holocene humid phase and ani…

    Open Access•Ryan Rabett, Ryan J Rabett et al.•ARTICLE•Libyan Studies•2013•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 9

The paper reports on the sixth season of fieldwork of the Cyrenaican Prehistory Project (CPP) undertaken in September 2012. As in the spring 2012 season, work focussed on the Haua Fteah cave and on studies of materials excavated in previous seasons, with no fieldwork undertaken elsewhere in the Gebel Akhdar. An important discovery, in a sounding excavated below the base of McBurney's 1955 Deep Sounding (Trench S), is of a rockfall or roof collaps…
