  • Nutritional anthropometry of children and adolescents in Spain in the middle of the 20th century (1934–1965)

Open Access•Maria Dolores Marrodán, Ana Garcés Sánchez et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2026

Objective: The general objective was to explore the nutritional condition of schoolchildren, based on certain body measurements published in various reports (from 1934 to 1965). More specifically, we intended to analyse, first, the secular trend of growth by comparing historical anthropometric data with current national and international figures and, second, to study the possible variability of body measurements at that time among different Spani…

Open Access•Maria Florencia Cesani, Marisa González‐montero De Espinosa et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2025

OBJECTIVE: The practice of anthropometry in schools at the beginning of the 20th century originated in Europe and Latin America in conjunction with the emergence of hygienism and epidemiological auxology. The aim of this work is to deepen the knowledge of these practices in Spain and Argentina and to compare the available growth data in order to identify possible differences between the populations. METHODS: The anthropometric data of 1693 boys a…

  • Concordance between methods of estimating body fat in pediatric and adolescent age

Marisa González Montero De Espinosa, Marisa González‐montero De Espinosa et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2024

The three techniques used to measure %BF show high concordance. All ICC values between pairs of methods are above 0.90. The comparison of %BF by anthropometry with BIA or NIR shows that the affinity is higher in intermediate adiposity percentages than in extreme ones. This trend occurs in both sexes and age groups.

Open Access•J Lescure, Irene Martín‐turrero et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2023

OBJECTIVES: The Middle Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) bracelet is a widely used instrument in public health assessments and humanitarian assistance projects. The WHO guidelines present a universal cut-off point of 115 mm to determine whether a child has severe acute malnutrition. The objective of this study is to analyze the existing differences in the MUAC for boys and girls aged between 6 and 59 months, from 22 countries distributed in three di…
