  • Climate Change and Cultural Response in the Prehistoric American Southwest

Larry V Benson, Larry Benson et al.•ARTICLE•KIVA•2009•Citada por: 17•Referencias: 20

Comparison of regional tree-ring cutting-date distributions from the southern Colorado Plateau and the Rio Grande region with tree-ring-based reconstructions of the Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) and with the timing of archaeological stage transitions indicates that Southwestern Native American cultures were periodically impacted by major climatic oscillations between A.D. 860 and 1600. Sitespecific information indicates that aggregation, a…

  • Effects of acute administration of nicotine and lobeline on agonistic encounters in male mice

    Open Access•Rosa Redolat, M Carmen Oterino et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•2000•Referencias: 40

The effects of acute administration of two nicotinic ligands, (-)-nicotine and (-)-lobeline were examined on isolation-induced aggression in mice. Individually housed male mice confronted anosmic “standard opponents” in a neutral arena 10 min after drug administration. Encounters were videotaped and evaluated using an ethologically based analysis facilitating estimation of time allocated to 11 broad behavioral categories. Nicotine did not have si…

  • A Reassessment of Northeastern Great Basin Prehistory

    Open Access•David B Madsen, Michael S Berry•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1975•Citada por: 17•Referencias: 5

A re-examination of data from eastern Great Basin sites (in particular Hogup Cave) indicates that subsistence patterns did not, as suggested by Jennings (1957) and Aikens (1970), remain essentially unchanged throughout the period of Archaic occupation. The evidence points to a major adaptive shift from semi-permanent settlement on lake peripheries to primary dependence on upland resources during the mid-Holocene. This adaptive modification was re…
