Nonresident Father Involvement With Children and Divorced Women's Likelihood of Remarriage
Although remarriage is a relatively common transition, little is known about how nonresident fathers affect divorced mothers' entry into remarriage. Using the 1979-2010 rounds of the National Longitudinal Study of Youth 1979, the authors examined the likelihood of remarriage for divorced mothers (N = 882) by nonresident father contact with children and payment of child support. Throughout the 1990s, scholars interested in fatherhood have generated a voluminous, rich, and diverse body of work. We selectively review this literature with an eye toward prominent theoretical, methodological, and substantive issues. Divorce, Residential Change, and Stress
Using a national sample of married persons inter- viewed in 1980 and again in 1983 and 1988, the impact of divorce on residential change was assessed. Divorce has profound effects on the probability of moving, the number of moves, and in the likelihood of shifts in owner status, dwelling type, and housing quality. While research on adjustment to divorce has been extensive, the paucity of studies assessing stress before and after divorce has kept the relation between psychological stress and martial dissolution unclear. Conflicting findings cast some doubt on the utility of using a crisis model to study divorce. An Unstudied Region of Helping
An extension of the Pearce-Amato (1980) cognitively-based typology of helping is presented. First, an exhaustive list of helping verb categories was compiled. Subjects then assigned a representative sample of helpingforms derivedfrom the literature to these categories. San Pedro Creek flows westerly to the Pacific Ocean, draining an 8.2 sq mi watershed in Pacifica, San Mateo County, California. Our Study Site, which includes the lower 2.6 miles of the creek, was analyzed to determine current physical conditions and impacts of land use activities.
