  • Monitoring a changing Arctic

Open Access•Karley Campbell, Ilkka Matero et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2022•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 57

Sea ice continues to decline across many regions of the Arctic, with remaining ice becoming increasingly younger and more dynamic. These changes alter the habitats of microbial life that live within the sea ice, which support healthy functioning of the marine ecosystem and provision of resources for human-consumption, in addition to influencing biogeochemical cycles (e.g. air–sea CO 2 exchange). With the susceptibility of sea ice ecosystems to cl…

  • Racial variations in work-related stress among police officers

Gary R Repasky, Richard Lee Rogers et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal…•2020•Referencias: 50

This study examines racial variations in the experience of police department norms and culture. Using the data set Police Stress and Domestic Violence in Police Families in Baltimore, Maryland (1997-1999), results show that White and Black officers describe sources of work-related stress differently. Whites focus on issues related to the institutional culture, whereas Blacks described problems in terms of personal mistreatment. There are no diffe…

  • Viral impacts on bacterial communities in Arctic cryoconite

    Open Access•Christopher M Bellas, Alexandre M Anesio et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2013

The surfaces of glaciers are extreme ecosystems dominated by microbial communities. Viruses are found in abundance here, with a high frequency of bacteria displaying visible virus infection. In this study, viral and bacterial production was measured in Arctic cryoconite holes to address the control that viruses play in these highly truncated ecosystems. Mean bacterial carbon production in the sediments of cryoconite holes was found to be 57.8 +/-…
