  • Climatic, population, and spatial co-location contributions to nighttime and compound heatwave exposure in Southeast Asia

Open Access•Puyang Liu, Xian‐Xiang Li et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2026

Population exposure to daytime, nighttime, and compound heatwaves can follow distinct trajectories, yet their historical evolution and spatial overlap with population growth remain incompletely characterized across tropical Southeast Asia. ERA5-Land daily maximum and minimum temperatures for 1960–2022 were bias-corrected against SA-OBS using Quantile Delta Mapping (QDM) and used to identify mutually exclusive heatwave types. We combined cumulativ…

  • Projected precipitation changes over the south Asian region for every 0.5 °C increase in global warming

Open Access•Mansi Bhowmick, Sandeep Sahany et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2019

Using all ensemble members of NCAR CCSM4 for historical natural, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios from CMIP5, we analyse changes in mean and extreme precipitation over the south Asian region for every 0.5 o C increase in global warming. An increase in mean annual precipitation is projected over majority of the south Asian region with increased levels of warming. Over Indian land, the spatially-averaged annual mean precipitation shows an increase in th…

  • Effects of global warming and solar geoengineering on precipitation seasonality

Open Access•Prasanta Kumar Bal, Raju Pathak et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2019

The effects of global warming and geoengineering on annual precipitation and its seasonality over different parts of the world are examined using the piControl, 4xCO 2 and G1 simulations from eight global climate models participating in the Geoengineering Model Intercomparison Project.Specifically, we have used relative entropy, seasonality index, duration of the peak rainy season and timing of the peak rainy season to investigate changes in prec…
