  • Anglo-American Liberal Militarism and the Idea of the Citizen Soldier

Open Access•James Woods, James E Wood et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal Canada s…•2007•Citada por: 3

The rise of Anglo-German antagonism in the decade prior to the Great War has been variously ascribed to imperial rivalries between an emergent great power and an established global empire; insecurities fuelled by a dangerously escalating naval arms race; and the traditional balance-of-power foreign policy whereby 300 years of English statesmen had sought to prevent a European rival from establishing hegemony over the continent. That ideology play…

  • How does variation in fetal loss affect the distribution of waiting times to conception

M Weinstein, James Woods et al.•ARTICLE•Biodemography and Social Biology•1993•Referencias: 26

Unmeasured variation has long been a concern in analyses of the waiting time to conception. Recent work by Heckman and Walker (1991) and Trussell and Rodriguez (1990) has underscored the fact that statistical considerations alone cannot discriminate among likely models describing the distribution. Here, we specify a single theoretically important source of heterogeneity, namely variability in intrauterine mortality, and assess its effects on the …

  • Components of Age-Specific Fecundability

    M Weinstein, James Woods et al.•ARTICLE•Population Studies•1990•Citada por: 11

Fecundability – the monthly probability of conception – incorporates both physiological and behavioural elements that vary across a woman's reproductive life span. How much of the variation in fecundability during the reproductive period can be attributed to age-related changes in physiology, and how much to variation in coital frequency? We use a mathematical model of fecundability to consider this question. Intra-uterine mortality has an import…

  • Dermatoglyphics of American Blacks

    Open Access•Qutub H Qazi, Helouise C Mapa et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1977•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 4

Dermatoglyphics of 100 male and 100 female phenotypically normal Black Americans living in New York City were analyzed. The significant bimanual asymmetry was noted only for patterns in the second and the third interdigital areas of the palms. The significant sex differences included excess of digital arch patterns in females and higher mean finger ridge counts in males. Distribution of dermatoglyphic characteristics of Black Americans in our stu…
