White Encrustation Produced from Deer Antler Phosphate on Prehistoric Ceramics from Podunavlje
The composition and structure of the white pigments used in the encrustation paste on prehistoric ceramics is analysed and described. Potential for a New Multimillennial Tree-Ring Chronology from Subfossil Balkan River Oaks
A total of 272 oak ( Quercus sp.) samples have been collected from large subfossil trees dredged from sediment deposited by the Sava and various tributary rivers in the Zagreb region of northwestern Croatia, and in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Measurement series of tree-ring widths from these samples produced 12 groups, totaling 3456 years of floating tree-ring chronologies spread through the last ca. 8000 years. Celestial symbolism in the Vučedol culture
The article presents the Vučedol Culture conception of the world, as shown on their vessels, particularly the terrines and the vessels developed from them – referred to as censers. They had more of a ritual than a practical role. Particular attention is drawn to the pot with the calendar image
Radiocarbon Dating of the Vučedol Culture Complex
Radiocarbon dates of the Vučedol culture range from its earliest beginnings at Vučedol and Pivnica to its late phase at Vinkovci, Eastern Slavonia, Hrustovača, northwest Bosnia, Parte, Slovenia and Rudine, northwest Croatia. Recent 14 C analyses are discussed and compared to corresponding dates outside the scope of the Vučedol culture. Findings provide evidence for the expansion of the late Vučedol culture both in time and space
