Gender equality at stake
Italy promulgated the ‘Golfo-Mosca Law’ obliging companies to introduce gender quotas on boards of directors. The goal was to analyse whether or to what extent women bring gender equality to boards’ debates as well as men’s reactions following the introduction of quotas. The authors interviewed 100 women directors and 34 men CEOs/Presidents between June 2020 and February 2021, referring to the concepts of ‘critical mass’, ‘symbolic violence’ and …

There were different ways of doing mathematics in the ancient Greek and Roman world. This essay will explore historiographical approaches to this diversity, from the claim that there were different traditions, to explorations of the social status of mathematicians, to attempts to go beyond written traditions in order to reconstruct practices. Accounting, Greece and Rome
Accounting has two main aspects: ascertaining through calculation either quantities of money, goods, or people, and making that information available. For instance, accounting in ancient Athens consisted not only in calculating how many ships the allies of Athens provided in the common war effort against the Persians, but also in carving that information on stone slabs and displaying them in the Athenian Agora.
Exploring ancient Greek and Roman numeracy
This article outlines the general aims of my current research on numeracy in ancient Greece and Rome. I survey the available evidence, which is both textual and archaeological, and briefly discuss some of the main questions which will guide my exploration of this wide field. This article is an exercise in the historiography of ancient technical artefacts, beginning from the examination of a second-century a.d. cippus inscribed with the story of a Roman engineer, Nonius Datus, who designed and supervised the construction of an aqueduct in Algeria.
