  • Queer Muslims creating queer livable spaces through strategic (In)visibility and educational migration in transnational contexts

    Open Access•Asma Noureen•ARTICLE•Sexualities•2026

This article explores the connections between the pursuit of higher education, queer migration, livability, and (in)visibility based on 14 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with queer Muslims from Muslim-majority countries in the Global South who pursued higher education in the Global North. Centering the concept of livability, the article highlights that queer Muslims move in and out of the closet strategically, depending on social, political…

  • Significant differentiation in the apolipoprotein(a)/lipoprotein(a) trait between chimpanzees from Western and Central Africa

Open Access•Asma Noureen, Claudius Ronke et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2017

Elevated Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) plasma concentrations are a risk factor for cardiovascular disease in humans, largely controlled by the LPA gene encoding apolipoprotein(a) (apo(a)). Lp(a) is composed of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and apo(a) and restricted to Catarrhini. A variable number of kringle IV (KIV) domains in LPA lead to a size polymorphism of apo(a) that is inversely correlated with Lp(a) concentrations. Smaller apo(a) isoforms and h…
