The acceptability of lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART) among HIV-positive women in high-burden Nigeria, is not well-known. We explored readiness of users and providers of prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services to accept lifelong ART -before Option B plus was implemented in Nigeria. The Relationship Between Lifetime Abuse and Suicidal Ideation in a Sample of Injection Drug Users
This study examined the relationship between lifetime abuse and suicidal ideation in a sample of 245 injection drug users (IDUs) who attended the Baltimore Needle Exchange Program and received a referral for opiate agonist therapy. Data were obtained from baseline interviews and HIV antibody tests. The sample mean age was 42.2 (SD = 8.1 ); 77% were African American; 69% were male. What Factors Hinder Women of Color From Obtaining Preventive Health Care
This commentary examines how women of color fare on the use of preventive care. Logistic regression models of women's use of preventive care were computed with data from the 1994 Commonwealth Fund Minority Health Survey. It was found that having a regular doctor was the most consistent predictor of the use of preventive care, irrespective of the women's racial/ethnic background, socioeconomic circumstances, or place of residence. The Validity and Reliability Testing of a Consumer-Based Cultural Competency Inventory
A statewide data collection effort was implemented to assess the validity and reliability of a 52-item consumer assessment instrument of the cultural competency mental health providers. Objectives. We examined risk factors for HIV infection among Puerto Rican and Mexican American women aged 15 through 44 years. Methods. We used data from the 1995 National Survey of Family Growth. Analyses focused on the relation between sex role attitudes, sex education, anxiety, and consistent condom use. Results. This study uses data from the 1994 Commonwealth Fund Minority Health Survey to examine the financing of medical care for working age (18-64) Latinos. Nearly one out of every three working age Latinos (32.4 percent) were uninsured in 1994. Poor Latinos were more than three times more likely than upper income Latinos (49.9 percent versus 13.8 percent) to lack health insurance in 1994.
