This article demonstrates that recent theoretical celebrations of Democratic Vistas are sanitized and incomplete. Pronunciation and Linguistic Bias in Interviewing Arabic Instructors
The present qualitative study reports on a sample of six Arabic instructors (out of 30) who were asked to modify/correct their pronunciation of Arabic as it was considered "unsuitable" by members of the recruitment committee. Almost half the instructors believed that the corrections involved linguistic bias. The others did not take issue and welcomed such direction since they believed that modification may improve the learning-teaching process by…

Providing the first extended analysis of Audre Lorde’s critique of the 1983 U.S. invasion of Grenada, this essay argues that Lorde’s critique models a form of anti-imperial consciousness that is still morally and politically instructive. A rural medieval settlement in Roxburghshire
Few medieval rural settlements have been identified or excavated in Scotland.The site at Springwood Park survived in a ploughed field and was identified by scatters of medieval pottery.Excavation revealed only part of the settlement, a row of buildings on a river terrace which was occupied from the late 12th to the 14th century.Three main periods were identified, followed by levelling and abandonment.The earliest period featured post-set structur…

Blawearie Cairn was first excavated by Canon William Greenwell in 1865. His findings indicated that the cairn was a cist cemetery of the Early Bronze Age. Recent excavation has demonstrated that the cairn was originally a kerb circle and that funerary rites were not necessarily its prime function

On the 29 July 1984 archaeologists engaged in a survey of the later Prehistoric and Romano-British landscape around Holme-on-Spalding Moor in East Yorkshire visited land at Hasholme which was being drained. Examination of the drainage works led to the discovery of fragments of a substantial logboat amongst timbers which had been removed from the fenland by the contractors after fouling their mole drainer. Two ovariectomized female rhesus monkeys treated year‐round with estradiol‐filled capsules were used in hour‐long behavioral tests with male rhesus monkeys both in and out of the normal breeding season. The study was designed primarily to test male hormonal responses to copulatory behavior and it was expected that behavior of the females would be essentially the same under both seasonal conditions.
