Factors shaping women's sexual satisfaction
Since the introduction of Viagra in 1998, pharmaceutical giants have been scrambling to develop a similar drug to treat ‘sexual dysfunction’ in women. In 1999, female sexual dysfunction (FSD), an umbrella term for a variety of different sexual ‘dysfunctions’, became an official disorder. FSD is one example of the medicalization of female sexuality whereby problems are defined, conceptualized, and solved in medical terms while ignoring the social,…

Gender and College Opportunities
The authors examine the rise of the two-year college and changes in enrollment patterns between two-year and four-year colleges by sex in the United States and Japan since 1960. Notably, the chances of a woman who attended college of entering a four-year college were less in 1980, in both the U. S. and Japan, than they were in 1960. Channeling large numbers of women into two-year colleges perpetuates occupational sex segregation. Further, it alle…

Sexual nuances within internal labor markets
The author analyzes the benefit of being known within an organization for women compared to men. Dual/internal labor market theorists maintain that higher-level positions within organizations are primarily filled from internal sources, namely, through promotion of already employed workers in ladder positions.
