Ice Transport in the East Greenland Current and Its Causes
Examines, especially, the export of ice from the Arctic Ocean between Greenland and Svalbard, as it effects the Ocean's energy budget. The amounts exported monthly and annually by wind and by current are calculated, methods described. Total export, estimated at 950,000-1,000,000 km approaches the Russian estimates of 1,036,000 km. Water Balance and Heat Flow of the Arctic Ocean
Summarizes the literature on these two elements of the heat balance. Specific heat of water 1 cal/g degree, and density: 1 g/cu cm are used in the calculations, and a resulting inaccuracy of about 3% is expected. Method of calculation is described; energy in- and outflux values and the mean temperatures are discussed for the various ocean currents into and out of the Arctic.
