Conflict over Intergenerational Equity
In the mid-1980s the issue of intergenerational equity arose on the agenda of policymakers and scholars in the United States but not in Canada. We describe the emergence of the issue in the United States, document the differential importance of the issue in the two countries, and seek an explanation for the difference.

The roles that older workers play in labour markets has received a great deal of policy and academic scrutiny in response to economic crises and demographic change. As a starting point, this focus has paradoxically resulted in insufficient attention to older workers themselves. Data from a survey of anglophone Canadian snowbirds wintering in Florida and one of U.S. snowbirds in the Texas Lower Rio Grande Valley are used to compare the two groups in terms of sociodemographics, chronic health conditions, and use of health services. Social Integration and Caregiving among Seniors in Bermuda
This paper examines social interaction among seniors in Bermuda, the relationship of various interaction variables with psychological or emotional well-being, and caregiving. The data come from the first ever social science survey conducted among seniors in this country. The findings are compared with selected industrialised countries. Bermudian seniors have strong social ties, somewhat stronger than have been reported in other developed nations.…
