Everyday Life Experiences Matter
Eerika Koskinen-Koivisto started working as the Associate Professor of Ethnology, School of History, Culture and Art Studies, University of Turku in August 2025. In this text, she introduces her own path in European ethnology and reflects on why ethnological research matters.
Archaeological Explorations of Memoryscapes
In this article, we use our investigations of the remnants of the past in Northern Finland associated with sites and memorials of conflict in order to highlight the ways in which layered “memoryscapes” are at the center of both individual remembrance and collective memory. Affective Clutter
Over-consumption and the domestic abundance of things have become a problem in affluent Western homes, which are full of new commodities and layers of lived things. At the same time, the encounter with mess and clutter generates a strong moral charge. We should not approach clutter as simply meaningless or lacking order, but rather as a form of trouble-making materiality that forces people to engage with materiality due to a sense of discomfort. …
